Jesus crowned King of kings.
Ps. xlvii, 5, 6. Rev. xix, 16.
1 WHENCE those unusual bursts of joy, Whose sound through heaven rings? They welcome Jesus to the sky,
And crown Him-King of kings.
2 At sight of Him, yon seraphs bright, Exulting, clap their wings;
They hail the Lord with new delight, And crown Him-King of kings.
3 Look up, ye saints! and while ye gaze, Forget all earthly things; Unite to sing the Saviour's praise, And crown Him-King of kings.
4 While here He bore our sin and shame; From this our comfort springs; "Tis meet we should exalt his name, And crown Him-King of kings.
5 We hope, ere long, beyond those clouds To tune celestial strings,
And join with heaven's exulting crowds To crown Him-King of kings,
The Man of sorrows crowned in triumph.
Matt. xxvii, 28-30. Rev. xix, 11-16. 1 Look, ye saints! the sight is glorious! See the Man of sorrows now! From the fight return'd victorious, Ev'ry knee to Him shall bow: Crown Him! crown Him! Crowns become the Victor's brow.
2 Crown the Saviour! angels crown Him! Rich the trophies Jesus brings: In the seat of power enthrone Him, While the vault of heaven rings! Crown Him! crown Him!
Crown the Saviour King of kings! 3 Sinners in derision crown'd Him, Mocking thus the Saviour's claim; Saints and angels crowd around Him, Own his title, praise his Name: Crown Him! crown Him! Spread abroad the Victor's fame! 4 Hark! those bursts of acclamation! Hark! those loud triumphant chords! Jesus takes the highest station; Oh! what joy the sight affords! Crown Him! crown Him! King of kings, and Lord of lords!
Christ's constraining love.
2 Cor. v, 14, 15.
1 O LORD! who now art seated Above the heavens on high- The gracious work completed, For which Thou cam'st to die- To Thee our hearts are lifted, While pilgrims wand'ring here; For Thou alone art gifted Our every weight to bear.
2[We know that Thou hast bought us, And wash'd us in thy blood; We know thy grace has brought us, As kings and priests, to God; We know that soon the morning, Long look'd for, hasteth near, When we at thy returning In glory shall appear.]
3 O Lord! thy love's unbounded! So full, so sweet, so free! Our thoughts are all confounded, Whene'er we think on Thee: For us Thou cam'st from heaven, For us to bleed and die, That, purchas'd and forgiven, We might ascend on high.
4 O let this love constrain us To give our hearts to Thee; Let nothing henceforth pain us, But that which paineth Thee; Our joy, our one endeavour, Through suff'ring, conflict, shame, To serve Thee, gracious Saviour! And magnify thy name.
1 JESUS, my all, to heaven is gone, He, whom I fix my hopes upon; His track I see, and I'll pursue The narrow way, till Him I view. 2 This is the way I long had sought, And mourn'd because I found it not; My grief and burden long had been That I could not depart from sin. 3 The more I strove against its power, I sinn'd and stumbled but the more; Till late I heard my Saviour say:- Come hither, soul! I am the way.
4 Lo! glad I come, and Thou bless'd Lamb, Wilt take me to Thee, as I am; Nothing but sin I Thee can give; Nothing but love shall I receive,
5 Then will I tell to sinners round What a dear Saviour I have found; I'll point to thy redeeming blood, And say:-Behold the way to God!
Christ in glory magnified.
Heb. i, 6, Rev. i, 5, 6.
1 HARK! ten thousand harps and voices Sound the note of praise above! Jesus reigns, and heaven rejoices; Jesus reigns, the God of love: See, He sits on yonder throne! Jesus rules the world alone.
2 Well may angels, bright and glorious, Sing the praises of the Lamb; While on earth He prov'd victorious, Now He bears a matchless name: Well may angels sing of Him; Heaven supplies no richer theme. 3[Come, ye saints! unite your praises With the angels round his throne: Soon, we hope, our Lord will raise us To the place where He is gone: Meet it is that we should sing, Glory, glory to our King!]
