God in three Persons adored.

Isa. vi, S. Rev. iv, 8.

1 HOLY, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;

Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

2 Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee, Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

Cherubim and Seraphim falling down before Thee,

Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3 Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,

Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may

not see,

Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,

Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

4 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth,
and sky, and sea;

Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Prayer for the blessing of the Triune God.

2 Cor. xiii, 14.

1 COMMAND thy blessing from above,
O God! on all assembled here;
Behold us with a Father's love,
While we look up with filial fear.
2 Command thy blessing, Jesus! Lord!
May we thy true disciples be;
Speak to each heart the mighty word;
Say to the weakest:-Follow me.
3 Command thy blessing in this hour,
Spirit of truth! and fill the place
With humbling and with healing power,
With quick'ning and renewing grace.

1

Immortal praise to the Trinity.

Heb, ix, 14.

To God the Father yield
Immortal praise and love,
For all our comforts here,
And better hopes above:
He sent his own eternal Son

To die for sins which man had done.

To God th' eternal Son

Let praise immortal flow,

Who bought us with his blood,

Who saves from endless woe;

And now on high He lives and reigns,
And sees the fruit of all his pains.
3 To God the Holy Ghost
Immortal honours give,
Whose new-creating power
Can make the dead to live:
His work completes the great design,
And fills the soul with joy divine.
Immortal praise to Thee,

O Father! Spirit! Son!
The undivided Three!

The great mysterious One!

With all her powers where reason fails,
There love adores and faith prevails.

Praise to Father, Son, and Spirit.

1 Pet. 1, 2.

1 BLEST be the Father and his love, To whose celestial source we owe Rivers of endless joy above,

And streams of comfort here below!

L. M.

2 Glory to Thee, great Son of God!
Forth from thy wounded body rolls
A precious stream of vital blood,
Pardon and life for dying souls.
3 We give Thee, Holy Spirit! praise,
Who in our hearts of sin and woe
Mak'st springs of living grace arise,
And into boundless glory flow.

4 Thus God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, we adore:
To whom be equal honours done
By all the church for evermore.

[blocks in formation]

1 ETERNAL Power, whose high abode Becomes the grandeur of a GodInfinite lengths beyond the bounds

Where stars revolve their countless rounds2 Thee whilst the highest angel sings, He hides his face beneath his wings; And ranks of shining thrones around Fall prostrate on the sacred ground.

after Trinity.

3 Lord! what shall earth and ashes do?
We would adore our Maker too;
From sin and dust to Thee we cry,
The Just, the Holy, and the High.

4 Earth from afar hath heard thy fame,
And sinners dare to lisp thy name;
But oh! the glories of thy mind
Leave all our soaring thoughts behind.

5 God is in heaven, and man below;
Be short our strains; our words be few;
A solemn rev'rence checks our songs,
And praise sits silent on our tongues.

God is love.

1 John iv, 16.

1 COME ye, who know and fear the Lord,
And raise your thoughts above;
Let every heart and voice accord
To sing that God is love.

This precious truth his word declares,
And all his mercies prove;

Jesus, the Gift of gifts, appears

To show that God is love.
