Imploring grace to feed on the Word.
Deut. viii, 3. Phil. iv, 7. 1 Pet. ii, 2.

1 LORD! help us on thy word to feed;
In peace dismiss us hence;
Be Thou, in every time of need,
Our refuge and defence.

2 Departing hence, we bless thy name;
We bless thy gracious word;

And with our thankful tongues proclaim
The goodness of the Lord.

A blessing sought on the seed sown.

Isa. lv, 10, 11.

ON WHAT has now been sown
Thy blessing, Lord! bestow;
The power is thine alone

To make it spring and grow:
Do Thou the gracious harvest raise,
And Thou alone shalt have the praise.

Worshippers anticipating glory.

Ex. xxxiii, 14.

8.7.4.

Luke xxiv, 50, 51. Col. i, S-6.
1 LORD! dismiss us with thy blessing;
Fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, thy love possessing,
Triumph in redeeming grace:
Oh! refresh us,

Trav'lling through this wilderness.
2 Thanks we give, and adoration,
For thy gospel's joyful sound;
May the fruits of thy salvation
Iu our hearts and lives abound:
May thy presence

With us evermore be found.
3 So whene'er the signal's given
Us from earth to call away,
Borne on angels' wings to heaven,
Glad to leave our cumbrous clay,
May we ready

351

Rise and reign in endless day.

Christians parting.

Matt. xxvi, 30. Acts xx, 37, 38.

1 CHRISTIAN brethren! ere we part,
Every voice and every heart

One glad hymn to God should raise,
One high song of grateful praise.

7's.

2 Here we all may meet no more:
But there is a happier shore;
There, released from toil and pain,
Brethren! we shall meet again.
3 Now to God, the Three in One,
Be eternal glory done;

Raise, ye saints! the song again,
Gladly join the loud Amen.

The Lord's Supper.

352

The table of the Lord.

Matt. xxvi, 26-30.

1 MY GOD! and is thy table spread?
And doth thy cup with love o'erflow?
Thither be all thy children led,

And let them all thy sweetness know.
2 Hail, sacred feast, which Jesus makes!
Rich banquet of his flesh and blood!
Thrice happy he, who here partakes
That sacred stream, that heavenly food!
3 Lord! let thy table honour'd be,
And furnish'd well with joyful guests;
And may each soul salvation see,
That here its sacred pledges tastes.

L.M.

4 Let crowds approach with hearts prepar'd, And round thy holy table bend;

Nor, when we leave our Master's board,
The pleasure or the profit end.

353

5 Revive thy dying churches, Lord!
And bid our drooping graces live;
And more that energy afford,

A Saviour's blood alone can give.

Remembering Jesus.

Luke xxii, 19, 44; xxiii, 33.

1 ACCORDING to thy gracious word,
In meek humility,

This will I do, my dying Lord!
I will remember Thee.

2 Thy body broken for my sake
My bread from heaven shall be;
Thy testamental cup I take,
And thus remember Thee!
3 Can I Gethsemane forget?
Or there thy conflict see,
Thine agony and bloody sweat,
And not remember Thee?

4 When to the cross I turn mine eyes,
And rest on Calvary,

O Lamb of God! my Sacrifice!
I must remember Thee.

5 Remember Thee, and all thy pains,
And all thy love to me!

C. M.

Yes! while a pulse or breath remains
Will I remember Thee.

354

Believers fed at the holy table.

Ps. lxxx, 1.

Mark xiv, 22-24. 1 Cor. x, 16.

8.7.

ISRAEL'S Shepherd! guide me, feed me, Through my pilgrimage below; And beside the waters lead me, Where thy flock rejoicing go, Lest I err, thine aid disdaining, And forsake thy shelt'ring fold, Heedless of thy grace constraining, In the strength of nature bold. 2 Lord thy guardian presence ever, Meekly kneeling, I implore; Now thy grace hath found me, never Would I wander from Thee more: Oh! how sweet, how comfortable, In the wilderness to see Rich provisions, and a table

Spread for sinners, spread for me! 3 Here thy bounty still partaking,

In these signs of bread and wine,
Freely all things else forsaking,
I behold the Saviour mine:
In his bruised body broken,
In the shedding of his blood,
See, my soul, a gracious token,
Sure and full for every good.
