L. M. God's mercies new each morning. 1 Chron. xxiii, 30. Ps. Ivii, 8. Lam. iii, 22, 23.
1 New every morning is the love
Our wakening and uprising prove,
Hover around us while we pray,
3 If, on our daily course, our mind
Be set to hallow all we find,
4 The trivial round, the common task,
Will furnish all we ought to ask;
5 Only, O Lord I in thy dear love
Fit us for perfect rest above;
I GLORY to Thee, my God! this night,
For all the blessings of the light!
2 Forgive me, Lord! for thy dear Son,
The ills that I this day have done;
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.
The grave as little as my bed:
4 O may my soul on Thee repose,
And with sweet sleep mine eyelids close;
To serve my God, when I awake. 5 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
L. M. The soul reposing on the Saviour.
Ps. cxxxix, 17, 18. Luke xxiv, 29.
It is not night if Thou be near:
To hide Thee from thy servant's eyes ! 2 When the soft dews of kindly sleep
My wearied eyelids gently steep,
For ever on my Saviour's breast!
For without Thee I cannot live:
For without Thee I dare not die.
Have spurn'd to-day the voice divine,
Let him no more lie down in sin.]
With blessings from thy boundless store;
Like infant's slumbers, pure and light.] 6 Come near and bless us when we wake,
Fre through the world our way we take;
The day is now far gone;
Assembled round thy throne.
We have not reach'd that land
That happy land-as yet, Where heavenly hosts around Thee stand,
And suns shall never set.
Our sun is sinking now,
Our day is almost o'er;
Shine on us evermore!
May we sleep safe in Thee,
Our everlasting prize.
And near eternity;
Take us to dwell with Thee.
Let hallelujahs close the day;
2 Oh! may we ever ready stand,
With our lamps burning in our hand;
3 Though here on earth we may not meet
Again to hold communion sweet,
10's. Christ's abiding presence sought at eventide.
Luke xxiv, 20. 1 ABIDE with me! fast falls the eventide;
The darkness thickens; Lord! with me abide: When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless! oh! abide with me!
