Christ's unbounded love.
Jer. xxxi, 3. John xv, 13.

1 WHAT led the Son of God
To leave his throne on high,
To shed his precious blood,
To suffer and to die?

His pure unbounded love to us
Led Him to die and suffer thus.
2 What moves Him to impart
His Spirit from above,
Thereby to fill our heart

With heavenly peace and love?
His pure unbounded love to us
Moves Him to give his Spirit thus.
3[Why are we taught to pray,

And read his word of truth;
To keep his holy day,

148th.

And serve Him in our youth?
His pure unbounded love to us
Has raised up friends to teach us thus.]

4 The warmest thanks we owe

To Thee, O God of grace!
Our hearts should overflow

In grateful love and praise:

Help us, O Lord! to praise Thee thus
For thine unbounded love to us.

Blessedness of early piety.

Eph. vi, 4. 2 John 4.

1 HAPPY the child, whose tender years
Receive instruction well,

Who hates the sinner's path, and fears
The road that leads to hell!

2 When we devote our youth to God,
"Tis pleasing in his eyes;

A flower, when offer'd in the bud,
Is no vain sacrifice.

3 "Twill save us from a thousand snares,
To mind religion young;

Grace will preserve our following years,
And make our virtues strong.

4 To Thee, almighty God! to Thee,
Our childhood we resign;

"Twill please us to look back and see
That our whole lives were thine.

5 Let the sweet work of prayer and praise Employ our youngest breath:

Thus we're prepared for longer days,
Or fit for early death.

The happy land.

Num. x, 29.

Isa. xxxiii, 17.

1 THERE is a happy land,
Far, far away,

Where saints in glory stand,
Bright, bright as day:
Oh! how they sweetly sing-
Worthy is our Saviour King!
Loud let his praises ring!
Praise, praise for aye!

2 Come to this happy land,
Come, come away!

Why will ye doubting stand?
Why still delay?

Oh! we shall happy be,

When, from sin and sorrow free,
-Lord! we shall live with Thee,
Blest, blest for aye!

3 Bright in that happy land
Beams every eye;
Kept by a Father's hand-
Love cannot die!

Oh! then to glory run!

Be a crown and kingdom won!
And bright above the sun
We reign for aye!

The children singing Hosanna.

Matt. xxi, 15, 16. Luke xix, 40.

1 WHEN, his salvation bringing,
To Zion Jesus came,

The children all stood singing
Hosanna to his name;

Nor did their zeal offend Him,
But, as He pass'd along,
He bade them still attend Him,
And smiled to hear their song.
Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!
Hosanna to Jesus! we'll sing.

And since the Lord retaineth

His love for children still,
Though now as King He reigneth
On Zion's heavenly hill;
We'll flock around his banner,
Who sits upon the throne,
And cry aloud-Hosanna
To David's royal Son!

Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!
Hosanna to Jesus! we'll sing.

For should we fail proclaiming
Our great Redeemer's praise,
The stones, our silence shaming,
Would their hosannas raise:

Children's Hymns.

But shall we only render

The tribute of our words?
No! while our hearts are tender,
They too shall be the Lord's.
Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!
Hosanna to Jesus, our King!

4 [For this, Lord! grant thy Spirit
To melt each heart of stone,
That, resting on the merit

Of Jesu's blood alone,
We may ascend to glory

With all who love thy Name,
And sing aloud before Thee-

Salvation to the Lamb.

Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!
Hosanna to Jesus, our King!]

Christ the Friend of children.
Prov. viii, 17. Mark x, 14.

1 THOU Guardian of our youthful days!
To Thee our prayers ascend;

C. M.

To Thee we'll tune our songs of praise,
To Thee, the children's Friend.

2 From Thee our daily mercies flow,
Our life and health descend:

Lord! save our souls from sin and woe;
Be Thou the children's Friend.
