C. M.

Prayer for Divine Aid.

St. Martin's.

G Nor hear my cries in vain ;
REAT God, attend my humble call,

Oh let thy grace prevent my fall,
And still my hope sustain.

2 Be thou my help in time of need,
To thee, O Lord, I pray;

mf In mercy hasten to my aid,
Nor let thy grace delay.

3 Let all who love thy name rejoice,
And glory in thy word,

In thy salvation raise their voice,
And magnify the Lord.

FIRST PART. C. M. Warwick.

Praise to God, the Saviour.

MY Saviour, my almighty Friend,

When I begin thy praise,

Where will the growing numbers end,
The numbers of thy grace?

2 Thou art my everlasting trust;
Thy goodness I adore ;

And since I knew thy graces first,
I speak thy glories more.

3 My feet shall travel all the length
Of the celestial road,

mf And march, with courage in thy strength,
To see my Father, God.

P

4 When I am filled with sore distress
For some surprising sin,

mf I'll plead thy perfect righteousness,
And mention none but thine.

f

5 How will my lips rejoice to tell
The victories of my King!

My soul, redeemed from sin and hell,
Shall thy salvation sing.

SECOND PART. C. M. Blackburn.

Sustaining Grace implored.

GOD of my childhood, and my youth,
The guide of all my days,

I have declared thy heavenly truth,
And told thy wondrous ways.

2 Wilt thou forsake my hoary hairs,
And leave my fainting heart?
Who shall sustain my sinking years,
If God, my strength, depart?

3 Let me thy power and truth proclaim
Before the rising age,

And leave a savor of thy name,
When I shall quit the stage.

4 The land of silence and of death
Attends my next remove;

Oh may these poor remains of breath
Teach all the world thy love!

THIRD PART. C. M. Cheltenham.

MY God, my everlasting hope,

I live upon thy truth;

Thy hands have held my childhood up,
And strengthened all my youth.

2 Still has my life new wonders seen,
Repeated every year;

Behold my days that yet remain,

I trust them to thy care.

3 Cast me not off when strength declines,
When hoary hairs arise;

And round me let thy glory shine,

Whene'er thy servant dies.

4 Then, in the history of my age,
When men review my days,
They'll read thy love in every page.
In every line thy praise.

FIRST PART. L. M. Danvers.

Universal Reign of Christ.

mf GREAT God, whose universal sway

f

The known and unknown worlds obey, << Now give the kingdom to thy Son, Extend his power-exalt his throne. dol 2 As rain on meadows newly mown, So shall he send his influence down; His grace on fainting souls distils, Like heavenly dew, on thirsty hills. 3 The heathen lands, that lie beneath The shades of overspreading death, Revive at his first dawning light, mf And deserts blossom at the sight.

4 The saints shall flourish in his days,
Dressed in the robes of joy and praise;
Peace, like a river, from his throne,
Shall flow to nations yet unknown.

SECOND PART. L. M. Monmouth.
JESUS shall reign where'er the sun
Doth his successive journeys run;
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moon shall wax and wane no more.
2 For him shall endless prayer be made,
And praises throng to crown his head;
His name, like sweet perfume, shall rise
With every morning sacrifice.

3 People and realms of every tongue > Dwell on his love with sweetest song; And infant voices shall proclaim

Their early blessings on his name.

4 Blessings abound where'er he reigns; mf The joyful prisoner bursts his chains; > The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are blest. f" 5 Let every creature rise and bring Peculiar honors to our King:

Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud amen.

f

Long as the sun, his matchless fame
Shall ever stand secure.

2 Wonders of grace and power
To thee alone belong;

Thy church those wonders shall adore,
In everlasting song.

3 O Israel, bless him still,
His name to honor raise;
Let all the earth his glory fill,
Midst songs of grateful praise.

4 Jehovah God most high!
We spread thy praise abroad;
Through all the world thy fame shall fly,
O God, thine Israel's God!

FOURTH PART. 7s.

HASTEN, Lord, the glorious time,
When, beneath Messiah's sway,
Every nation, every clime,

Shall the gospel call obey.

Lincoln.

2 Mightiest kings his power shall own,
Heathen tribes his name adore ;
Satan and his host, o'erthrown,

Bound in chains, shall hurt no more.

3 Then shall wars and tumults cease,
Then be banished grief and pain;
Righteousness, and joy, and peace,
Undisturbed shall ever reign.

4 Bless we, then, our gracious Lord,
Ever praise his glorious name;

All his mighty acts record,

All his wondrous love proclaim.

FIRST PART. L. M. Middlebury.
Folly of envying the Prosperity of Sinners.

LORD, what a thoughtless wretch was I,
To mourn, and murniur, and repine,
To see the wicked placed on high,
In pride, and robes of honor shine!
Aff 2 But oh! their end-their dreadful end!
Thy sanctuary taught me so;
On slippery rocks I see them stand,
And fiery billows roll below.

3 Now I esteem their mirth and wine
Too dear to purchase with my blood;
Lord, 'tis enough that thou art mine,
My life, my portion, and my God.

SECOND PART. C. M. Dundee.

God the Portion of the Soul.

GOD, my supporter, and my hope,
My help forever near,
Thine arm of mercy held me up,
When sinking in despair.

2 Thy counsels, Lord, shall guide my feet,
Through this dark wilderness;
Thine hand conduct me near thy seat,
To dwell before thy face.

3 Were I in heaven, without my God,
"Twould be no joy to me;

And while the earth is my abode,
I long for none but thee.

4 What if the springs of life were broke,
And flesh and heart should faint,
f Thou art my soul's eternal rock,
The strength of every saint.

5 Then to draw near to thee, my God,
Shall be my sweet employ ;

My tongue shall sound thy works abroad,
And tell the world my joy.
