People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on his love with noblest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on his name.

Blessings abound where'er he reigns,
The prisoner leaps to loose his chains,
The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are blest.

Let every creature rise, and bring
Peculiar honours to our King;
Angels descend with sougs again,
And earth repeat the loud Amen.

Hymn 91. P. M.

FROM

ROM Greenland's icy mountains,
From India's coral strand,

Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand
From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,—
They call us to deliver

;

Their land from error's chain.

Shall we, whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high,
Shall we to men benighted
The lamp of light deny?
Salvation! O salvation!

The joyful sound proclaim,
"Till each remotest nation

Has learn'd Messiah's name.

Waft, waft, ye winds, his story,
And you, ye waters, roll,
"Till, like a sea of glory,

It spreads from pole to pole;
"Till o'er our ransom'd nature
The Lamb for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reign.

Hymn 92. C. M.

THE Spirit breathes upon the word,
And brings the truth to sight;
Precepts and promises afford
A sanctifying light.

A glory gilds the sacred page,
Majestic, like the sun;
It gives a light to every age,
It gives, but borrows none.
Let everlasting thanks be thine,
For such a bright display,

As makes a world of darkness shine
With beams of heav'nly day.
Our soul rejoices to pursue
The steps of him we love,
Till glory breaks upon our view
In brighter worlds above.

Hymn 93. C. M.

IN duties and in suff'rings too,

Our Lord we fain would trace; As thou hast done, so would we do,

Depending on thy grace.

Inflam'd with zeal, 'twas thy delight
To do thy Father's will;

May the same zeal our souls excite,
Thy precepts to fulfil.

Meekness, humility, and love,
Through all thy conduct shine;
O may our whole deportment prove
A copy, Lord, of thine.

Hymn 94. L. M.

GOD, in the gospel of his Son,

Makes his eternal counsels known:

Where love in all its glory shines,
And truth is drawn in fairest lines.

Here sinners, of an humble frame,
May taste his grace and learn his name ;
May read, in characters of blood,
That God is just, and true, and good.

The pris'ner, here may break his chains;
The weary, rest from all his pains;
The captive, feel his bondage cease;
The mourner, find the way of peace.

Here faith reveals to mortal eyes,
A brighter world beyond the skies;
Here shines the light which guides our way,
From earth to realms of endless day,

O grant us grace, Almighty Lord!
To read, and mark, thy holy word;
Its truths with meekness to receive,
And practice all that we believe.

Hymn 95. C. M.

SOLDIER'S course,

from battle's won

To new-commencing strife;
A pilgrim's, restless as the sun :—
Behold the christian's life!

The hosts of satan pant for spoil—
How can our warfare close?
Lonely we tread a foreign soil-
How can we hope repose?

O let us seek our heavenly home,
Reveal'd in sacred lore;

The land whence pilgrims never roam,
Where soldiers war no more:-

Where grief shall never wound, nor death,

Beneath the Saviour's reign:

Nor sin, with pestilential breath,
His holy realm profane :-

The land where (suns and moons unknown,
And night's alternate sway,)
Jehovah's ever-burning throne

Upholds unbroken day :

Where they who meet shall never part ;
Where grace achieves its plan;

And God, uniting every heart,
Dwells face to face with man.

Hymn 96. C. M.

FWhat endless glory shines!

ATHER of mercies, in thy word

For ever be thy name ador'd,
For these celestial lines.

Here may the wretched sons of want
Exhaustless riches find;

Riches, above what earth can grant,
And lasting as the mind.

Here the Redeemer's welcome voice
Spreads heavenly peace around;
And life, and everlasting joys,
Attend the blissful sound.

O may these heavenly pages be
Our ever dear delight;

And still new beauties may we see,
And still increasing light!

Divine Instructor, gracious Lord,
Be thou for ever near!

Teach us to love thy sacred word,
And there to learn thy fear.

Hymn 97. C. M. ALMIGHTY God, thy wond'rous works Of providence and grace,

An angel's perfect mind exceed,
And all our pride abase.

Stupendous heights! amazing depths!
Creatures in vain explore;

Or if a transient glimpse we gain,
'Tis faint, and quickly o'er.

Though all the mysteries lie conceal'd,

Beyond what we can see,

Grant us the knowledge of ourselves,
The knowledge, Lord, of thee.
