Since thou a pitying ear didst give,
And heard'st me when I pray'd :
And never doubt thy aid.
My soul encompass'd round,
On ev'ry side I found.
And did for succour flee;
« The soul that trusts in thee !" How good thou art ! how large thy grace!
How ready to forgive !
And by thy love I love.
With anxious thoughts distrest,
To ease, and joy, and rest.
My feet from falling free,
O Lord ! I live to thee.
My rising soulsurveys,
In wonder, love, and praise?
Thy providence my life sustain'd,
And all my wants redrest,
And hung upon the breast.
Thy goodness lent an ear,
To form themselves in pray'r.
Thy tender care bestow'd, Before iny
infant heart conceiv'd
With heedless steps I ran,
And led me up to man.
It gently clear'd my way,
More to be fear'd than they.
Thy goodness I'll pursue,
The pleasing theme renew.
A grateful song I'll raise ; But oh! eternity's too short
To utter all thy praise.
Hymn 61. P. M.
Of the Father dwellest higli,
From thy rest above the sky. God incarnate ! leave thy glory,
Nor abhor the Virgin's womb; Spread salvation like a river ;
Jesus let thy kingdom come. Love divine, all love excelling,
Joy of heaven to earth come down ; Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus thou art all compassion,
Pure unbounded love thou art : Visit us with thy salvation,
Enter every trembling heart. Shepherds, did you bear him coming,
Whilst you kept your flocks by night ? Did you see his Star in heav'n
Blaze with new created light?
See the orient Star before,
Blest Arabia's balmy store.
All ye joyous hosts of heav'n,
Loudly speak the Saviour's praise ;
Your seraphic voices raise.
In wide echoing songs proclaim;
Praise the blest Redeemer's name.
Hymn 62. P. M.
For Christmas Day. CHRISTIANS! awake, lift up your heads,
Salute the happy morn: Each heav'nly pow'r proclaims the glad hour ;
Lo! Jesus the Saviour is born,
Where hymping seraphs sing;
ours, Our Prophet, our Priest and our King.
Where shepherds watch their flocks by night,
Are joyful tidings given;
Proclaim'd with hosaunas from heaven.
The wise men guided by a star,
The wond'rous truth explore ; Their presents they bring to the new-born King,
They see him and humbly adore. Then let us joiu, &c.
Hymn 63. C. M.
For Christmas Day.
God's well beloved Son fulfils
The sure prophetic word.
He seeks no earthly throue ;
His dignity is shown.
Prepare ye then your songs of praise,
To bail th' incarnate King!
Your glad honannas bring.
“ All glory be to God on high ;
“And heav'nly peace on earth ; “Goodwill to man,” with angels sing,
At your Redeemer's birth.
Heav'n with hallelujabs rang;
