326.

5 Not in vain for us uplifted,
Man of sorrows, wonder-gifted,
May that sacred symbol be;
Eminent amid the ages,
Guide of heroes and of sages,
May it guide us still to thee.

1 Now let our mournful songs
The dying sorrows of our Lord,
When he complained in tears and blood,
Like one forsaken of his God.

2 But God, his Father, heard his cry—
Raised from the dead, he reigns on high;
The nations learn his righteousness,
And humble sinners taste his grace.

Luke 24:46.

1 HE dies!-the friend of sinners dies;
Lo! Salem's daughters weep around;
A solemn darkness vails the skies ;

L. M.

A sudden trembling shakes the ground.

2 Here's love and grief beyond degree:
The Lord of glory dies for men ;
But lo! what sudden joys we see,
Jesus, the dead, revives again.

3 The rising God forsakes the tomb;
Up to his Father's court he flies;
Cherubic legions guard him home,

And shout him welcome to the skies.

4 Break off your tears, ye saints, and tell
How high our great Deliverer reigns:
Sing how he spoiled the hosts of hell,
And led the tyrant Death in chains.

328.

5 Say-live forever, glorious King,

Born to redeem, and strong to save! Where now, O Death, where is thy sting? Aud where thy victory, boasting Grave?

Acts 1:11.

1 COME, every pious heart,

That loves the Saviour's name,
Your noblest powers exert

To celebrate his fame:

Tell all above,

And all below,

The debt of love

To him you owe.

2 He left his starry crown,
And laid his robes aside;

329.

On wings of love came down,

And wept, and bled, and died:
What he endured,

No tongue can tell,

To save our souls

H. M

From death and hell.

3 From the dark grave he rose―

The mansion of the dead;

And thence his mighty foes
In glorious triumph led;

Up through the sky And reigns on high,
The conqueror rode, The Saviour-God.
4 From thence he 'll quickly come—
His chariot will not stay-
And bear our spirits home
To realms of endless day :
There shall we see

His lovely face,

Psalm 148.

And ever be

In his embrace.

1 YE tribes of Adam, join

With heaven, and earth, and seas,

And offer notes divine

To your Creator's praise:

H. M

Ye holy throng

Of angels bright,

In worlds of light,

Begin the song.

330.

2 Thou sun, with dazzling rays,

And moon, that rul'st the night,
Shine to your Maker's praise,
With stars of twinkling light:
His power declare,

And clouds that fly

Ye floods on high, In empty air.

3 The shining worlds above

In glorious order stand;
Or in swift courses move,
By his
He spake the word,
Aud all their frame

supreme command:

4 Let all the nations fear

From nothing came,

To praise the Lord!

The God that rules above;

He brings his people near,

And makes them taste his love:

While earth and sky

Attempt his praise,

Luke 4: 19.

His saints shall raise

His honors high.

1 BLOW ye the trumpet, blow!
The gladly solemn sound;
Let all the nations know,

To earth's remotest bound,
The year of jubilee is come;
Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

2 Exalt the Lamb of God,

The sin-atoning Lamb!
Redemption by his blood,

Through very land, proclaim :
The year of jubilee is come;

Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

3 Ye slaves of sin and hell!
Your liberty receive,
And safe in Jesus dwell,

And blest in Jesus live:

The year of jubilee is come;
Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

4 The gospel trumpet hear,
The news of pardoning grace:
Ye happy souls, draw near;
Behold your Saviour's face:
The year of jubilee is come;
Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.
5 Jesus, our great High Priest,
Has full atonement made;

Ye weary spirits, rest;

Ye mourning souls be glad :
The year
of jubilee is come;

Return, ye ransomed sinners, home.

Luke 24: 34.

1 YES, the Redeemer rose;

The Saviour left the dead;

And o'er our hellish foes

High raised his conquering head ;

H. M

In wild dismay,

Fall to the ground,

The guards around

And sink away.

2 Lo! the angelic bands
In full assembly meet,

To wait his high commands,
And worship at his feet:

Joyful they come,

From realms of day,

And wing their way, To Jesus' tomb.

3 Then back to heaven they fly,

And the glad tidings bear:

Hark! as they soar on high,

What music fills the air!

Their anthems say: Hath left the dead;

"Jesus who bled

He rose to-day."

4 Ye mortals, catch the sound,

Redeemed by him from hell;

And send the echo round

The globe on which you dwell:

Transported cry:

"Jesus who bled

Hath left the dead,

No more to die."

332.

333.

5 All hail, triumphant Lord,
Who sav'st us with thy blood!
Wide be thy name adored,

Thou rising, reigning God!

With thee we rise,

And empires gain

With thee we reign, | Beyond the skies.

Philippians 4: 4.

1 REJOICE! the Lord is King—

Your God and King adore;
Mortals, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore:

Lift up the heart, lift up the voice:
Rejoice aloud, ye saints, rejoice.

2 His kingdom cannot fail,

He rules o'er earth and heaven,
The keys of death and hell
Are to our Jesus given;

Lift up the heart, lift up the voice:
Rejoice aloud, ye saints, rejoice.
3 He all his foes shall quell,

Shall all our sins destroy,
And every bosom swell

With pure seraphic joy:
Lift up the heart, lift up the voice:
Rejoice aloud, ye saints, rejoice.
4 Rejoice in glorious hope!

Jesus, the Judge, shall come,

And take his servants up

To their eternal home:

We soon shall hear the archangel's voice,
The trump of God shall sound, Rejoice!

Psalm 24

1 OUR Lord is risen from the dead,
Our Jesus is gone up on high;
The powers of hell are captive led,
Dragged to the portals of the sky
