3 IIere, freedom spreads her banner wide, And casts her soft and hallowed ray ;— IIere, thou our fathers' steps didst guide
In safety, through their dangerous way. 4 We praise thee, that the gospel's light, Through all our land, its radiance sheds; Dispels the shades of error's night, And heavenly blessings round us spreads.
1 ETERNAL Source of every joy, Well may thy praise our lips employ, While in thy temple we appear, To hail thee, Sovereign of the year!
2 Wide as the wheels of nature roll, Thy hand supports and guides the whole, The sun is taught by thee to rise, And darkness when to vail the skies.
3 The flowery spring at thy command, Perfumes the air, adorns the land; The summer rays with vigor shine, To raise the corn, to cheer the vine.
4 Thy hand, in autumn, richly pours, Through all our coasts, redundant stores: And winters, softened by thy care,
No more the face of horror wear.
5 Seasons and months, and weeks, and days, Demand successive songs of praise; And be the grateful homage paid, With morning light and evening shade.
6 Here in thy house let incense rise, And circling Sabbaths bless our eyes, Till to those lofty heights we soar, Where days and years revolve no more.
1 THERE is a land immortal, The beautiful of lands; Beside its ancient portal
A silent sentry stands; He only can undo it,
And open wide the door; And mortals who pass through it, Are mortal nevermore.
2 Though dark and drear the passage That leadeth to the gate, Yet grace comes with the message, To souls that watch and wait; And at the time appointed
A messenger comes down, And leads the Lord's anointed From cross to glory's crown.
3 Their sighs are lost in singing, They're blessed in their tears; Their journey heavenward winging, They leave on earth their fears: Death like an angel seemeth; "We welcome thee," they cry; Their face with glory beameth- 'T is life for them to die!
1 GREAT God of nations! now to thee Our hymn of gratitude we raise; With humble heart, and bending knee, We offer thee our song of praise.
2 Thy name we bless, Almighty God! For all the kindness thou hast shown, To this fair land the Pilgrims trod,- This land we fondly call our own-

1 OUR Helper, God! we bless thy name, Whose love forever is the same; The tokens of thy gracious care Open, and crown, and close the year. 2 Amid ten thousand snares we stand, Supported by thy guardian hand; And see, when we review our ways, Ten thousand monuments of praise. 3 Thus far thine arm has led us on; Thus far we make thy mercy known; And, while we tread this desert land, New mercies shall new songs demand. 4 Our grateful souls, on Jordan's shore, Shall raise one sacred pillar more; Then bear, in thy bright courts above, Inscriptions of immortal love.
1 O GOD, beneath thy guiding hand, Our exiled fathers crossed the sea; And when they trod the wintry strand,
With prayer and psalm they worshiped thee. 2 Thou heard'st, well-pleased, the song, the prayer; Thy blessing came; and still its power Shall onward through all ages bear
The memory of that holy hour.
3 Laws, freedom, truth, and faith in God
Came with those exiles o'er the waves; And where their pilgrim feet have trod, The God they trusted guards their graves.
4 And here thy name, O God of love,
Their children's children shall adore, Till these eternal hills remove,
And spring adorns the earth no more.
1 GREAT God, we sing that mighty hand, By which supported still we stand: The opening year thy mercy shows; Let mercy crown it till it close.
2 By day, by night at home, abroad, Still we are guarded by our God; By his incessant bounty fed,
By his unerring counsel led.
3 With grateful hearts the past we own; The future-all to us unknown- We to thy guardian care commit, And peaceful leave before thy feet. 4 In scenes exalted or depressed,
Be thou our joy, and thou our rest; Thy goodness all our hopes shall raise, Adored, through all our changing days. 5 When death shall close our earthly songs, And seal, in silence, mortal tongues, Our Helper, God, in whom we trust, Shall keep our souls and guard our dust.
1 WHILE o'er the deep thy servants sail, Send thou, O Lord, the prosperous gale; And on their hearts where'er they go, Oh, let thy heavenly breezes blow!
2 If on the morning's wings they fly, They will not pass beyond thine eye; The wanderer's prayer thou bend'st to hear, And faith exults to know thee near.
3 When tempests rock the groaning bark, Oh, hide them safe in Jesus' ark! When in the tempting port they ride, Oh, keep them safe at Jesus' side!
