NOTE.-These tables begin with Malcolm III. of Scotland, and by a graduated scale connect his successors, by name, down to the junction of the two kingdoms of England and Scotland, under James I.

France commences at Hugh Capet, and by the

same method is continued down to the present king, Louis Philippe. The several dynasties are shewn, and a number attached to the name of each king. At the bottom of the table it is added, "Between No. 33 and No. 34 is the usurper Buonaparte."- ED.

PREFACE. This tract is compiled from the writings of, 1st. Dr. Nathaniel Lardner, a learned Dissenter, who was born at Hawkhurst, in Kent, 1684, and died at his native place in 1768. His life has been written by Dr. Kippis, and prefixed to an edition of his works, to which we refer the reader. The work we have mostly made use of, is his " Credibility of the Gospel History," an
