SATURDAY EVENING.

THUS saith the High and lofty One, that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah lvii. 15.

When the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Ezekiel xviii. 26.

I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth, as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. Matt. xviii. 19.

If ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him. Luke xi. 13.

PSALM XXXIX.

CHRIST PRECIOUS IN HIS OFfices.

1. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. ́

2. Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips, therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

3. Thy throne, O God, is for ever, the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

4. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. xlv. 1, 2, 6, 7.

5. Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men: yea, for the rebellious also, that the Lord God might dwell among them.

6. He that is our God, is the God of salvation; and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death. lxviii. 18, 20.

7. The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

8. The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek. cx. 2, 4.

9. The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind: the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down: the Lord loveth the righteous.

10. The Lord shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord. cxlvi. 8, 10.

PSALM XL.

THE LORD TO BE PRAISED FOR HIS GOODNESS TO MEN.

1. Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God, for it is pleasant, and praise is comely.

2. The Lord healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

3. The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. cxlvii. 1, 3, 11.

4. The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. 5. I love the Lord, because he

PSALM XLI.

DIFFERENCE OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND WICKED IN ETERNITY.

1. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. ii. 12.

2. For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness neither shall evil dwell with thee.

3. The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. v. 4, 5.

4. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. ix. 17.

5. Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger; the Lord shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. xxi. 9.

6. But the Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants; and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate. xxxiv. 22.

7. They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for

8. For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people; he will beautify the meek with salvation. cxlix. 4.

9. For the Lord loveth judgment and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. xxxvii. 28.

10. So that a man shall say, Verily, there is a reward for the righteous; verily he is a God that judgeth the earth. lviii. 11.

PSALM XLII.

A BLESSING DESIRED ON THE WORD, AND ITS EXCELLENCY DECLARED.

1. The words of the Lord are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. xii. 6.

2. Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.

3. Thy testimonies also are my delight, and my counsellors.

4. Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I have believed thy commandments.

5. I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts.

6. Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O Lord, according to thy loving-kindness. exix. 11, 24, 66, 94, 159.
