16 A gracious woman retaineth honour; and strong men retain riches.

17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.

18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

5 The thoughts of the righteous are right but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

&A inan shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

9 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

13 The wicked is snared by the transgres sion of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

19 As righteousness tendeth to life; so he that pursueth evil, pursueth it to his own death.

20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.

21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the rigineous shall be delivered.

16 A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion. 23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath. 18 There is that speaketh like the pier24 There is that scattereth, and yet in-cings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise creaseth; and there is that withholdeth more is health. than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.

27 fie that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.

28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

23 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind; and the fool shall be ser

vant to the wise of heart.

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief. 22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

VERY wise woman buildeth her house:

2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that

understandeth.

7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way; but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways; and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly and a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends. 21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

:

30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh : but envy the rottenness of the bones.

31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

52 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death. 33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of tools is made known.

34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

35 The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.

CHAP. XV.

A SOFT answer turneth away wrath: but

grievous words stir up anger.

18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: bat he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righ teous is made plain.

20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

1 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

02 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

3 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD; but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house: but he that hateth gifts shall live. 28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked pour

3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. 5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. 30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart; and a good report maketh the bones fat.

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him; neither will he go unto the wise.

13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

7 When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right.

9 A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast. 10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king; 16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD, his mouth transgresseth not in judgment. than great treasure, and trouble therewith. 17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love all the weights of the bag are his work. 11 A just weight and balance are the LORD's: is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

thers.

13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.

7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool; much less do lying lips a prince.

14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it. 15 In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it; whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love: but he that repeateth a matter separ ateth very friends.

10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold? and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver?

17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

13 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit) with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good; and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent; and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

22 Understanding is a well-spring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

24 Pleasant words are as an honey-comb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways of death.

26 He that laboureth, laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water; therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil; and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

28 A froward man soweth strife; and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good. 30 He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things; moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.

31 The boary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD. CHAP. XVII.

ETTER is a dry morsel, and quietness

2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?

17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.

19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife; and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

3 The fining-pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

6 Children's children are the crown of old

0 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good; and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow; and the father of a fool hath no joy. 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medi cine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding: but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.

27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words; and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

10 The name of the LORD is a strong tow; the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. 11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, nd as an high wall in his own conceit. 12 Before destruction the heart of man is aughty; and before honour is humility. 13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
