And we may venture to add, that if he did display sentiments of piety and contrition, they were sincere; for of all the vices which afflict and degrade humanity, none were more absolutely foreign to the character of Piron, than hypocrisy and dissimulation.

He died at Paris, in 1773, in his 85th year.
