They issue from his throne above,
They cheer his church below.

4 When earth and hell against us came,
He oft hath quelled their powers ;
The Lord of Hosts is still the same,
The God of grace is ours.

1 GOD

PSALM XCVii. 2. JOHN xiii. 7.

OD moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform;
He plants his footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.

2 Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never failing skill,

He treasures up his bright designs,
And works his sovereign will.

3 Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take,
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy, and shall break
In blessings on your head.

4 Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust him for his grace:
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

5 His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;

The bud may have a bitter taste,

But sweet will be the flower.

C. M.

6 Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan his work in vain ;
God is his own interpreter,
And he will make it plain.

PROVERBS xvi. 4.

GOD of Almighty power,

How glorious are thy ways!

Angels thy majesty adore,
All creatures speak thy praise.

Wherever earth is fair,
Or brighter worlds extend,
Almighty Sovereign, thou art there,
Creation's Lord and Friend.

3 And where the stars are not,
Nor sun hath ever shone,
Beyond the flight of human thought,
There thou art all alone.

4 Each gem and dewy flower,
Each sportive insect's wing,

The ocean's wrath, the whirlwind's power, To thee their tribute bring.

Heaven is thy glorious throne, Earth does thy footstool seem; But thy redeemed thou dost own Thy richer diadem.

6 And while they bless thy name, Hell trembles at thy rod,

Earth, heaven, and hell thy power proclaim, All things proclaim thee God.

EPHESIANS ii. 1 2 THESSALONIANS ii. 13.

1 PETER i. 5.

1 GOD of all grace, our latest breath,
To thee shall glory give;

For when we slept the sleep of death,
Thy Spirit bade us live.

2 No more we blindly wander on
In folly and in sin ;

His truth upon our path has shone,
And he has shone within.

3 He made our bold rebellion cease,
He did our hearts constrain;
Else laws, and threats, and promises,
Had urged us still in vain.

4 And as he gave converting grace,
'Tis he who helps us still
Daily our Saviour's steps to trace,
And keep God's holy will.

C. M.

5 Wilt thou then leave us, heavenly Guide, And not until the end,

(Through him who once was crucified)
Our feeble souls defend?

6 Oh, no-the words of promise given
For ever sure remain;

And we shall reach our home in heaven,
And we with Christ shall reign.

PSALM lxvii.

7's.

1 GOD of mercy, God of Grace,

Show the brightness of thy face;
Shine upon us, Saviour, shine,
Fill thy church with light divine;
And thy saving grace extend
Unto earth's remotest end.

2 Let the people praise thee, Lord;
Be by all that live adored;
Let the nations shout and sing,
Glory to their Saviour king;
At thy feet their tribute pay,
And thy holy will obey.

3 Let the people praise thee, Lord,
Earth shall then her fruits afford;
God to man his blessing give,
Man to God devoted live:
All below and all above,

One in joy, and light and love.

GOD

PSALM XXXi. 15.

OD of our lives, thy various praise
Our voices shall resound;
Thy hand directs our fleeting days,
And brings the seasons round.

2 In every scene of life, thy care,
In every age, we see:

And constant as thy favors are,
So let our praises be.

M

C. M.

3 [Still may thy love, in every scene,
To every age appear;

And let the same compassion deign
To bless the opening year.]

4 If mercy smile, let mercy bring
Our wandering souls to God,
And in affliction may we sing,
While thou dost bless the rod.

CLOSE OF WORSHIP.

1 I OD of our salvation hear us,
Bless, oh bless us, ere we go;
When we join the world be near us,
Lest we cold and careless grow:
Saviour keep us,

Keep us safe from every foe.
2 As our steps are drawing nearer
To our best and lasting home,
May our view of heaven grow clearer;
Hope more bright of joys to come;
And when dying

May thy presence cheer the gloom.

PUBLIC WORSHIP.

OD will teach us of his ways,

GOD

8. 7. 4.

He will be our Guide and Friend;
Let us, while we sound his praise,
Ever on his grace depend.

2 Oh, may he, whose hand supports
Nature's universal frame,
