It echoes all around,

And great the news it brings:
It says, that Jesus is at hand,

And bids the world before him stand.
The sound is heard afar,

It goes through sea and land;
And now before his bar,

Th' assembled nations stand:
His friends are severed from his foes,
For who are his the Saviour knows.

And now he calls his own,

To dwell with him above;

To sit upon his throne,

And share his endless love;

With joy they meet him in the clouds,
And mix with heaven's exulting crowds.

Rejoice that in that day,

We shall with those appear,

To whom the Lord will say,

"Ye blessed, now come near;

To you eternal life is given,

Draw near, and share the joys of heaven."

1 HASTEN, O sinner, to be wise,

And stay not for to-morrow's sun;

The longer wisdom you despise,
The harder is she to be won.

2 Oh, hasten mercy to implore,

And stay not for to-morrow's sun;

L. M.

For fear thy season should be o'er
Before this evening's stage be run.
3 Oh, hasten, sinner, to return,
And stay not for to-morrow's sun;
For fear thy lamp should cease to burn,
Before the needful work is done.

4 Oh, hasten, sinner, to be blest,
And stay not for to-morrow's sun;
For fear the curse should thee arrest
Before the morrow is begun.

5 O Lord, do thou the sinner turn;
Now rouse him from his senseless state;
Nor let him thy compassion spurn,
And rue his fatal choice too late.

JEREMIAH Xxxi. 34. ISAIAH Xi. 9.-ii. 1–4.
PSALM 1xxii. 11-17.

C. M.

HASTEN that time so bright and blessed,

Thou hast foretold, O Lord,

When from the greatest to the least,
All shall obey thy word.

2 Let nations cease from savage words,
No more in arms appear;

But into plough-shares beat their swords,
To pruning hooks the spear.

3 From passions sway, from Satan's chain,
Our sinful race release;

Then all shall love, and Christ shall reign
Over a world at peace.

HE

[blocks in formation]

E dies, the Friend of sinners dies, Lo! Salem's daughters weep around; A solemn darkness veils the skies, A sudden trembling shakes the ground. 2 Draw near, and trace in sad review, His grief, who groaned beneath your load; He gave his precious life for you, The ransom of your soul, to God. 3 But lo! the Lord forsakes the tomb; In vain his foes forbid his rise; Angelic legions guard him home, And shout him welcome to the skies. 4 Cease, cease your tears, ye saints, and tell How high our great Deliverer reigns; Sing how he spoiled the hosts of hell, And led his captive, Death, in chains. 5 Sing, "Live for ever, wond'rous King, Born to redeem, and strong to save; Thine arm hath torn from death its sting, And snatched the victory from the grave."

REVELATION i. 5–7.

E who loves us, now victorious,
Though he once so meekly died,
Shall from age to age more glorious
O'er the universe preside;
Hallelujah, hallelujah,
He for us was crucified.

8. 7. 4.

2 He who loves us, when temptations,
Might oppress our hearts with fear,
Our believing supplications,

In his mercy deigns to hear;
Hallelujah, hallelujah,

We are safe, for he is near.
3 He who loves us, soon descending
To the earth shall come again;
Then all sin and sorrow ending
With his church in bliss shall reign;
Hallelujah, hallelujah,

Saints and angels shout Amen.

EAR what the voice from heaven pro-
Of all the pious dead;

Sweet is the memory of their names,
The grave their peaceful bed.

2 From sufferings as from sin released,

And freed from every snare;

[claims.

Those who have died in Christ are blessed,
And where he is they are.

3 Far from this world of toil and strife,
They're present with the Lord;
They trusted him in death and life,
And great is their reward.

EAVEN is that holy, happy place,
Where saints God's goodness prove;

See their Redeemer face to face,
And love with perfect love.

2 Heaven is the end of faith and prayer,
The scene of bliss immense;
No sinner is admitted there,

No saint is banished thence.

3 There free from every earthly load
Of sorrow, care, or pain;

They dwell within the house of God,
And with the Saviour reign.

4 Eye hath not seen, nor ear hath heard,
Nor can the heart conceive;

All that the blood of Christ procured,
Or all that God can give.

5 O Saviour, who in love hast died,
That we might be forgiven,
Make us by faith in thee abide,
And so prepare for heaven.

[blocks in formation]

1 HIGH above created things,

Reigns the glorious King of kings,

Seated in approachless light,

Self-arrayed in awe and might.

2 Everlasting is his throne,

Heaven and earth are all his own;
Fashioned by his wondrous hand,
Subject to his strong command.
