2 Though many foes beset your road,
And feeble is your arm;

Your life is hid with Christ in God,
Beyond the reach of harm.

3 Weak as you are, you shall not faint,
Or fainting, shall not die;
Jesus, the strength of every saint,
Will aid you from on high.

4 Though some times unperceived by sense,
Faith sees him always near,
A Guide, a Glory, a Defence;
Then what have you to fear?

5 As surely as he overcame,

And triumphed once for you, So surely you that love his name, Shall triumph in him too.

ISAIAH ix 6.

REJOICE in Jesus' birth,
To us a Son is given,

To us a child is born on earth,

Who made both earth and heaven.

2 He reigns above the sky, The universe sustains;

S. M.

The God supreme, the Lord Most High,

The king Messiah reigns.

Our Counsellor we praise,
Our Advocate above;

Who daily in his church displays
His miracles of love.

4 The Almighty God is he,
Author of heavenly bliss;
The Father of eternity,

The glorious Prince of Peace,

Wider and wider still
He will his sway extend;

With peace divine his people fill,
And joys that never end.

His government shall grow,

From strength to strength proceed;
His righteousness the church o'erflow,
And all the earth o'erspread.

Now, for thy people's sake
O'er earth exalted be;

The kingdom, power, and glory take,

Which all belong to thee.

In zeal for God and man, Thy full salvation bring; The universal monarch reign, The saints eternal King.

PSALM XXXiii.

EJOICE ye righteous in the Lord,
This work belongs to you;

Sing of his name, his ways, his word,
How holy, just, and true.

C. M.

2 His mercy and his righteousness,
Let heaven and earth proclaim;
His works of nature and of grace
Reveal his wondrous name.

3 His wisdom and almighty word
The heavens around him spread;
And by the Spirit of the Lord
The universe was made.

4 He bade the liquid waters flow
To their appointed deep;
The flowing seas their limits know,
And their own station keep.

5 Ye tenants of the spacious earth,
With fear before him stand;

Through him all beings had their birth,
All live at his command.

6 He scorns each unbeliever's rage,
And breaks all proud designs;

His counsels stand through every age,
His glory ever shines.

PSALM 1xxxix. 31. EXODUS XXviii. 29.
JOHN X. 14. 2 CORINTHIANS 1. 20.

1 REJOICE, ye saints, in every state,
God's promises remain unmoved;

No earthly changes can abate

His care for those he once has loved.

L. M.

2 Firmer than heaven the covenant stands, Tho' earth should shake, and skies depart;

We're safe in our Redeemer's hands,
Who bears our names upon his heart.

3 Our Surety knows for us he stood,
And gave himself a sacrifice;

The souls once sprinkled with his blood,
Possess a life that never dies.

4 Should darkness spread around our tent,
Or fear prevail, or joy decline,
God will not of his oath repent,
Dear Lord, thy people still are thine.

5 Rejoice, ye saints, in every state,
God's promises remain unmoved;
No earthly changes can abate
His care for those he once has loved.

[blocks in formation]

EJOICE, ye saints, rejoice and place
Your trust in Christ, the source of grace;

Jesus, our everlasting tower,

Shields us in every threatening hour.

2 He is our refuge ever nigh,

He is our fortress placed on high;
He is our rock, whom winds above,
And waves beneath can never move.

3 While all things change he changes not;
He ne'er forgets though oft forgot;
And still unchangeably the same,
His love is lasting as his name.

4 We will rejoice and ever place
Our trust in his unfailing grace;
We're safe within the eternal tower,
From earthly storm and hellish power.

PSALM XCVii. 1.

EJOICE, the Lord is King,
Your Lord and King adore;

Let us give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore:

Lift up each heart, lift up each voice,
Rejoice, ye saints of God, rejoice.

2 Jesus the Saviour reigns,

The God of truth and love

When he had borne our pains,
He took his throne above:

3 His kingdom cannot fail,

He rules o'er earth and heaven;
The keys of death and hell
Are to our Saviour given:

Lift up each heart, lift up each voice,
Rejoice, ye saints of God, rejoice.

Rejoice in glorious hope,
Jesus, the Judge, shall come,
And take his servants up
To their eternal home:
Lift up each heart, lift up
For ever in the Lord rejoice.
