5 Fear not, my soul, with Jesus one,
For thee he pleads before the throne;
For thee he pleads the atoning blood,
For thee the righteousness of God.

6 Fear not, here stands thy hope secure,
As long as Godhead shall endure;
Who, who my soul can injure thee,
One with incarnate Deity?

7 Fear not, though like a parched scroll, The flaming heavens together roll; Though louder yet, and yet more dread, Swells the high trump that wakes the dead. 8 Fear not that dread, that wrathful day, When man to judgment wakes from clay; Jesus is still his people's stay,

Though heaven and earth shall pass away.

PSALM Xcvii. 1, 2, 10-12.

1 THE Almighty reigns exalted high

L M.

O'er all the earth, o'er all the sky;
Though clouds and darkness veil his feet,
His dwelling is the mercy seat.

2 O ye that love his holy name,
Hate every work of sin and shame ;
He guards the souls of all his friends,
And from the snares of hell defends.

3 Immortal light, and joys unknown,
Are for the saints in darkness sown;

Those glorious seeds shall spring and rise,
And the bright harvest bless our eyes.
4 Rejoice, ye righteous, and record
The sacred honors of the Lord;
None but the soul that feels his grace,
Can triumph in his holiness.

HEBREWS ix. 24-28.

THE atoning work is done,

The Victim's blood is shed;

And Jesus now is gone,

His people's cause to plead;

6. 8.

He stands in heaven their great High Priest,
And bears their names upon his breast.

And though awhile he be

Hid from the eyes of men,

His people look to see

Their great High Priest again;

In brightest glory he will come,
And take his waiting people home.

GALATIANS vi. 14.

L. M.

1 THE cross! the cross! oh that's my gain, Because on that the Lamb was slain;

'Twas there my Lord was crucified,
'Twas there my Saviour for me died.

2 What wondrous cause could move thy heart,
To take on thee my curse and smart;
Well knowing that my soul would be
So cold, so negligent of thee?

3 The cause was love, I sink with shame Before my sacred Saviour's name;

That thou should'st bleed and slaughter'd be, Because, because thou loved'st me.

THE

JOB i. 21.

HE dear delights we here enjoy,
And fondly call our own,

Are but short favors borrowed now,
To be repaid anon.

2 'Tis God that lifts our comforts high,
Or sinks them in the grave;
He gives, and, blessed be his name,
He takes but what he gave.

3 Peace all our angry passions then!
Let each rebellious sigh

Be silent at his sovereign will,
And every murmur die.

4 If smiling mercy crown our lives,
Its praises shall be spread;
And we'll adore the justice too
That strikes our comforts dead.

"THE

COLOSSIANS i. 18. REVELATION i. 5.

C. M.

8. 6.

HE first born from among the dead,"
Jesus is risen his people's Head,

To make their life secure;

They too, like him, shall yield their breath,
Like him, shall burst the bands of death,
Their resurrection sure.

2 Why should his people now be sad,
Who have such reason to be glad,
As reconciled to God?
Jesus, the mighty Saviour, lives;
To them eternal life he gives
The purchase of his blood.

3 Why should his people fear the grave,
Since Jesus will their spirits save,
And raise their bodies too?

What though this earthly house shall fail, Almighty power will yet prevail,

And build it

up anew.

4 Oh, may we then be faithful found,
And in our master's work abound,
Stedfast, immoveable;

Our labor shall not be in vain,
Our bodies shall be raised again,
No more corruptible.

THE

HE God of Abraham praise,
Who reigns enthroned above,

Ancient of everlasting days,

And God of love,

Jehovah, great I AM,

By earth and heaven confessed:
We bow, and bless the sacred name
For ever blessed.

The God of Abraham praise,
At whose
supreme command

3

From earth we rise and seek the joys
At his right hand;

We pomp and pride forsake,
The follies of an hour,

And him our lasting portion make,
Our shield and tower.

The God of Abraham praise,
Whose all-sufficient grace

Shall guide us through the wilderness
To see his face:

He is our faithful Friend,
He is our gracious God;
And he will save us to the end
Through Jesus' blood.

4 He by himself hath sworn,
We on his oath depend;
We shall, on eagles' wings upborne,
To heaven ascend;
We shall behold his face,
We shall his power adore;
And sing the wonders of his grace
For evermore.

5 The whole triumphant host
Give thanks to God on high;
"Hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,"
They ever cry:

Hail, Abraham's God and ours;

We join the heavenly lays;

And fain would reach an angel's powers
To sing his praise.
