And when Mofes had lifted up his hand, and ftruck twice with the rod, water came forth in great plenty, fo that both the people and their cattle drank. And the Lord faid to Mofes and Aaron: Because you have not believed me, to fanctify me before the children of Ifrael, you fhall not bring this people into the land, which I will give them. This is the water of contradiction, where the children of Ifrael murmured against the Lord, and he was fanctified in them.
