Beyond the joy of the time

When their corn and their wine are increased.

8

V.

I will lie down in peace,

And sleep at once:

For Thou, Thou alone, Jehovah,
Dost make me to dwell securely.

PSALM V.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN. ON THE LOTS. A PSALM

OF DAVID.

I.

1 GIVE ear to my words, Jehovah :

Discern my muttering:

2

Attend to the voice of my cry,

3

My King and my God:

For to Thee do I pray.
My voice may'st Thou hear

In the morning, Jehovah :
In the morning will I set in order
My prayer to Thee, and look out.

II.

4

Because Thou art not a God

Delighting in wickedness:

No guest of Thine the malignant :

5 The vain-glorious stand not before Thine eyes:

Thou hatest all that work iniquity : 6 Narrators of lies Thou wilt destroy :

The man of blood and deceit

Jehovah holds in abhorrence.

III.

7

But as for me, I will enter

Thy house in Thy manifold mercy :

8

And in Thy fear will I worship
Toward thy holy temple.

In thy righteousness lead me, Jehovah,
Because of those who watch me :

Make straight before me Thy way.

9

10

IV.

Because there is no steadfastness:
In the mouth of any one of them:
Their heart is concentrated wickedness:
Their throat is an open'd sepulchre :

They smoothen their tongue.

Account them guilty, O God:

Let them fall on account of their counsels :

Overthrow them because

Of their manifold crimes :

For they have rebelled against Thee.

11

12

V.

But all shall rejoice

That trust in Thee :

They shall sing for joy for ever,

Because Thou protectest them :

And they shall exult in Thee,

Who love Thy Name.

For Thou, even Thou, Jehovah,

Blessest the righteous :

With favour dost Thou encircle him,

As with a shield.

PSALM VI.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN. FOR STRINGED INSTRUMENTS.

ON THE OCTAVE. A PSALM OF DAVID.

1

2

3

I.

IN Thine anger, Jehovah, rebuke me not:
In Thy hot displeasure chastise me not.

II.

Be gracious to me, Jehovah :

For I am faint.

Heal me, Jehovah :

For my bones are agitated:

My soul is exceedingly agitated:
But Thou, Jehovah !-how long?

III.

4

5

7

Return, Jehovah, deliver my soul :

For Thy mercies' sake preserve me ;

For in death is no remembrance of Thee :

In the grave who will give Thee thanks?

IV.

I am wearied with my groaning:
Every night I wash my bed:

I moisten my couch with my tears.
Mine

eye is consumed through vexation:

It ages because of mine enemies.

8

9

10

V.

Depart from me all that work iniquity :

For Jehovah hath heard the voice of my weeping.

Jehovah hath heard

My supplication:

Jehovah accepts my prayer.

VI.

Mine enemies shall be ashamed:

They all shall be greatly confounded:

They shall retreat in a moment

Shall they be put to shame.

PSALM VII.

I.

1 MEDITATION of David on going astray, Which he sung to Jehovah concerning The charges of Cush the Benjamite.

2

3

II.

Jehovah, my God, I trust in Thee:
From all my pursuers save and deliver me:

Lest he tear my soul, like a lion,

And rend it in pieces, without a deliverer.
