PSALM XLVI.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN.

A SONG OF THE SONS OF KORAH

CONCERNING MYSTERIES.

I.

GOD is our Refuge and Strength:

A very present

Help in trouble.

Therefore we fear not

In the changing of earth:
In the shaking of mountains

In the heart of the ocean.

Its waters roar, and are turbid :

The mountains quake with its swelling.

PAUSE.

5

II.

A River's streams rejoice

The city of God:

The holy place where the Highest resides.

God is within her: she shall not be moved :

God will help her at break of morning.

6 The heathen roar: the kingdoms are moved :

7

He utters His voice: the earth dissolves.

Jehovah of Hosts is with us :

Our Refuge, the God of Jacob.

PAUSE.

Come, see Jehovah's doings:

He makes desolations on earth:

He makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth:
He breaks the bow, and snaps the spear:

He burns the chariot with fire.

Desist and know that I am God.

I am exalted among the heathen :
I am exalted throughout the earth.
Jehovah of Hosts is with us:
Our Refuge, the God of Jacob.

PSALM XLVII.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN.

A PSALM OF THE SONS OF KORAH.

1 O ALL ye peoples, clap the hands:
ye to God with a voice of jubilee.
For Jehovah the Highest is terrible :
A great King o'er all the earth.

II.

God is gone up with a shout:

Jehovah with sound of a trumpet.
Sing a psalm to God, sing a psalm:

Sing a psalm to our King, sing a psalm.
For God is King of all the earth :

[blocks in formation]

To the people of Abraham's God.

For the shields of earth are God's:
He is exalted greatly.

PSALM XLVIII.

A SONG OF PRAISE.

A PSALM OF THE SONS OF KORAH.

I.

GREAT is Jehovah, and exceedingly glorious
In the City of our God, in His holy Mountain.
Beautiful in elevation,

The joy of the earth, is Mount Sion:

On the northern side is the Great King's City. 3 In her palaces God is known as a Refuge.

II.

For lo, the kings were assembled:

They vanish'd together.

Themselves beheld with astonishment :
Were confounded, and fled away.

Trembling took hold on them there :

And pain, as a travailing woman.

With the east wind Thou breakest the ships of

Tarshish.

Even as we have heard, we have seen :

In the City of Jehovah of Hosts,

In the City of our God:

God stablishes it for ever.

PAUSE.

III.

We muse on Thy loving-kindness,
O God, in the midst of Thy temple.
As Thy Name, is Thy praise, O God,

To the ends of the earth:

Thy right-hand is full of righteousness.
Mount Sion rejoices:

The daughters of Judah exult :

Because of Thy judgments.

IV.

Walk about Sion, and go round about her :

Number her towers.

13

14

1

Mark well her bulwarks: dissect her palaces:

To tell the next generation.

For this God is our God for ever and ever :

He will be our Guide until death.

PSALM XLIX.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN.

A PSALM OF THE SONS OF KORAH.

I.

HEAR this, ye peoples, all of you;
Give ear, all that dwell in the world:

2

Both common men and lords ;

Both rich and poor together.

3

My mouth shall utter wisdom:

4

5

6

My heart muse on understanding.
Mine ear will I incline to a parable:
On the harp will I open my riddle.

II.

Why fear I in days of calamity,
When th' iniquity of my supplanters
Environs me round about?

They trust in their wealth:

And boast their abundant riches.
