And magnify Him with thanksgiving.
It will please Jehovah more than a bull:
Than a bullock with horns and hoofs.
The meek shall see and rejoice :

Ye seekers of God, your heart, may it live.
For Jehovah hears the destitute :
And despises not His prisoners.
Let heaven and earth extol Him:
The sea, and what moveth therein.
For God will deliver Sion:

And build up the cities of Judah :
There shall they dwell, and possess it.
His servants' seed shall inherit it:

They who love His Name shall dwell there.

PSALM LXX.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN.

A PSALM OF DAVID FOR REMINISCENCE.

O GOD, make haste to deliver me:

Jehovah, make haste to help me.

Let them be asham'd and confounded,

That seek my life:

Let them recoil in disgrace,

That delight in my hurt.

Let them retreat for reward of their shame,

Let all who seek Thee be joyful and glad in Thee :

Let the lovers of Thy salvation

Say continually," Jehovah is magnified."

But I am poor and needy:

Haste to mine aid, O God:

Thou art my Help and Deliverer;

Delay not, O Jehovah.

PSALM LXXI.

I.

IN Thee, Jehovah, I trust :

Let me not be ashamed for ever.

In Thy righteousness save and rescue me :

Incline Thine ear to me, and help me.

Be to me a Rock of resort

To which I may come continually.

Thou hast ordain'd to help me;

For Thou art

my Rock and my

Fortress.

II.

From the hand of the wicked, my God, deliver me:

From the fist of the evil-doer,

And of the abandon'd man.

For Thou art my hope, O Lord Jehovah :

My confidence from my youth.

6

On Thee have I lean'd from the womb :

7

8

From

my mother's lap Thou hast been my con

ductor.

Of thee is my praise continually.

I have been as a wonder to many :

But thou art to me a strong confidence.
My mouth is full of Thy praise :
All day long, of Thy glory.

9

Cast me not off in the time of old

age:

[blocks in formation]

When my strength is failing, forsake me not.

For mine enemies speak against me;

And they who lay wait for my life

Take counsel together, saying,

"God hath forsaken him: pursue and seize him :

"For he hath no deliverer."

O God, be not far from me :
My God, make haste to help me.
Let them be abash'd and consumed
Who are enemies to my soul:
Let them be wrapt in reproach

And dishonour, who seek my hurt.

16

But as for me, I will hope continually,

And multiply all Thy praise.

My mouth will publish thy righteousness
And salvation all day long :

For I know not the numbers thereof.
I will proceed with the Lord's exploits :
I will mention thy righteousness only.

17

19

O God, from my youth Thou hast taught it

me:

Till now I have publish'd thy wonders.
And even to old and grey hairs,

O God, forsake me not:

Till I have proclaim'd Thine arm
To the next generation;

Thy might, to all that come after.

Yea, to heaven, O God, is Thy righteousness;

[blocks in formation]

Thou wilt return and raise us.

21 an Thou wilt multiply my prowess:
Yea, Thou wilt return and comfort me.

ג 22

Myself will also praise Thee,
Even Thy truth, with the psaltery:
My God, I WILL hymn a psalm to Thee

With the harp, Thou Holy One of Israel.

23 My lips shout for joy, for I WILL hymn a psalm

גת 24

to Thee:

And

my

soul which Thou hast redeem'd.

Moreover, my tongue

Will muse all day on Thy righteousness :

Because they are put to shame :—
Because they are made to blush :-

PSALM LXXII.

A PSALM OF SOLOMON.

I.

1 GIVE the King Thy judgments, O God: And Thy righteousness to the King's Son. He will judge Thy people in righteousness : And Thine afflicted with judgment.

2

3

The hills will bring peace to the people :

4

5

And the mountain-tops through righteousness.
He will judge the people's afflicted ones :

He will save the sons of the needy :

And crush the oppressor.

They will fear Thee as long

As the sun and the moon endure:

Generations of generations.

II.

6

He will come down like rain on mown grass :

And like showers that water the earth.

7

In his days the righteous shall flourish :
