PART I.

PSALM I. TO XLI. INCLUSIVE.

PSALM I.

I.

10 HAPPY the man who walks not
In the counsel of the wicked;

Nor stands in the way of sinners;
Nor sits in the seat of scorners :

2 But Jehovah's law is his delight;

In His law doth he meditate day and night!

3

II.

Indeed he is like to a tree

By canals of waters planted,

Which produces its fruit in its season :

His leaf also doth not wither:

And all that he doeth

He brings to a prosperous issue.

4

Not so the wicked; but they

Are as chaff which the whirlwind scatters.

5

III.

Therefore the wicked

Shall not rise in the judgment:

Neither sinners

In the assembly of the righteous.

6 For Jehovah blesses the way of the righteous: But the way of the wicked perishes.

PSALM II.

I.

1 WHY assemble the heathen tumultuously, And the peoples imagine vanity?

2

3.

The kings of the earth are arrayed,
And the rulers consult together,

Against Jehovah,

And against His Messiah :

"Let us break their bands asunder,

"And cast away their cords from us."

4

5

6

II.

He sitting in heaven doth laugh:

The Lord derides them.

Then speaks He to them in His wrath :
And confounds them in hot displeasure:

"I nevertheless, even I,

"Have invested My King

"On Sion My holy mountain."

III.

I will surely declare the statute:
To Me Jehovah hath said,

"Thou art My Son :

"To-day have I begotten Thee:
"Ask of Me, and I will give Thee

66 The heathen for Thine inheritance :

"And for Thy possession

"The ends of the earth.

"With iron rod Thou shalt bruise them: "As a potter's vessel shiver them."

IV.

And now, ye kings, be wise:
Be instructed, ye earthly judges.

Serve Jehovah with fear:

And acclaim with trembling.

Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And in your course ye perish:
For His wrath will speedily burn.
Happy all, who take refuge in Him.

PSALM III.

A PSALM OF DAVID, WHEN HE FLED FROM HIS SON

ABSALOM.

2

I.

How greatly, Jehovah, mine enemies multiply!

Multitudes rise up against me:

Multitudes say to my soul,

"He hath no salvation in God!"

PAUSE.

II.

3

But Thou art a Shield about me:
My Glory, Jehovah :

And the Lifter up of my head.

4 With

my voice I am wont to call on Jehovah : From his holy hill He is wont to answer me.

PAUSE.

III.

5 I lay me down, and fall asleep :

I awake for Jehovah sustains me.

[blocks in formation]

7

8

IV.

Rise, Jehovah :

Save me, my God:

For all my foes Thou hast smitten

Upon the cheek-bone :

Thou hast shivered the teeth of the wicked.
Salvation belongs to Jehovah :

Thy blessing upon Thy people!

PAUSE.

PSALM IV.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN. FOR STRINGED INSTRUMENTS.

1

A PSALM OF DAVID.

I.

HEAR, when I call,

O God of my righteousness:

Thou hast set me at large when in straits:

Be gracious to me,

And list my prayer.

2

II.

Ye normal men, how long
Shall my glory be defamed?

Ye love what is vain :

Ye seek after lies.

PAUSE.
