So will I praise Thee in the great congregation
And extol Thee among much people.

[blocks in formation]

III.

Let not those triumph over me,
Who are mine enemies falsely;
Let them not wink with their eye,
Who hate me without a cause.
Because they speak not peace:
But against the quiet in the land
They devise deceitful words.

Yea, they open wide the mouth at me,

[merged small][ocr errors][merged small][merged small]

Thou seest, Jehovah: keep not silence :

My Lord, be not far from me.

Arouse Thyself, and awake to my judgment :
To my cause, my God, and my Lord.
Judge me according to Thy righteousness,
Jehovah my God:

And let them not rejoice at me.

Let them not say in their heart,

"Aha! we have our desire!"

Let them not say, "We have swallowed him up!”

Let them be ashamed, and blush together,

Who rejoice at my hurt:

Let them be clothed with shame and dishonour,

Who exalt themselves against me.

[blocks in formation]

Let those rejoice and sing,

Who delight in my justification:
Yea, let them say continually,

"Great is Jehovah,

"Who wills the peace of His servants!"

So will my tongue discourse of Thy righteous

ness:

All day long of thy praise.

PSALM XXXVI.

TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN. A PSALM OF DAVID,
JEHOVAH'S SERVANT.

I.

1

"THE oracle of transgression to me,

3

"The wicked, within my heart : "

No fear of God is before his eyes.

For he flatters himself in his eyes,

That his sin will not be found hateful.

The words of his mouth are deceit and vanity :
He ceases to act wisely

And to do good.

4

On his bed he plans iniquity :

In a way not good he set himself:

He does not shrink from evil.

5

II.

In the heavens is Thy love, Jehovah :
Thy faithfulness unto the clouds.
Thy righteousness is as the mountains of God:

Thy judgments are a great ocean :

Man and beast Thou preservest, Jehovah.

7

How precious thy goodness, O God :

And the children of men take refuge

8

9

Beneath the shade of thy wings.

They have their fill from the fat of thy house :

Thou lettest them drink of the stream of thy plea

sures.

For with Thee is the fountain of life :

And in Thy light we see light.

11

III.

Continue Thy goodness to those who know Thee:
To the upright in heart, Thy righteousness.
Let not the foot of pride come against me:
Nor the hand of the wicked molest me.

12 There are they fallen, who work iniquity!
They are cast down, and cannot rise.

PSALM XXXVII.

A PSALM OF DAVID.

I.

1 INFLAME not thyself against the miscreants :

2

Envy not evil-doers.

For they soon shall be mown down as grass :
And wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in Jehovah, and be doing good:
Dwell in the land, and feed on truth.

ד 7

Delight thyself in Jehovah :

And thy heart's request He will give thee.
Roll thy way on Jehovah :

And trust in Him:

And He, even He, will execute.

He will bring forth as light thy righteousness:

Thy judgment as noontide brightness,

Be silent as to Jehovah,

And wait on Him:

Inflame not thyself because

Of him who makes his way prosperous:
The man who acts maliciously.

8 Desist from anger, and cease from wrath :

9

Inflame not thyself to do only evil.

For miscreants shall be cut off:

And they who wait on Jehovah,
They shall inherit the land.

11

For yet but a little while,

And the wicked shall be no more:

With his place thou shalt acquaint thyself,
But he shall be no more.

But the meek shall inherit the land;

And delight in abundance of peace.

12 The wicked plotteth against the righteous: With his teeth he gnasheth at him.

The Lord derides him :

For He sees that his day is coming.
The sword the wicked draw:

And bend their bow:

To murder the poor and needy,

And slay the upright.

Their sword shall pierce their heart :
And their bows shall be broken.

16 A righteous man's little is better
Than the turmoil of many wicked.
For the arm of the wicked shall break:
But Jehovah upholds the righteous.
18 Jehovah blesses the days of the perfect:
And their heritage lasts for ever.
They shall not be ashamed in the time of adversity:
In the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
For the wicked shall perish :

And the foes of Jehovah consume
As the preciousness of lambs:
They shall consume in smoke.

repay:

21 The wicked borroweth, and doth not
But the righteous is pitiful, and lendeth.
