Which of the glories brightest shone,
The justice, or the grace.

Now the full glories of the Lamb
Adorn the heav'nly plains:

Bright cherubs learn Immanuel's name,
And try their choicest strains

O, may

I bear some humble part

In that immortal song!

Wonder and joy shall tune my heart,
And love command my tongue.

10. Prayer to God.

GUIDE me, O thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim, through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty,
Hold me with thy pow'rful hand :

Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
Feed metill I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain
Whence the healing streams do flow,
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar

Lead me all my journey thro':

Strong Deliv'rer, strong Deliv'rer, Be thou still my strength and shield. When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside; Death of deaths, and hell's destruction, Land me safe on Canaan's side: Songs of praises, songs of praises I will ever give to thee.

11. Longing after God.

GREAT God! indulge my humble claim;
Be thou my joy, my hope, my rest;
The glories that compose thy name

Stand all engag'd to make me blest!

Thou great and good, thou just and wise, Be thou my Father, and my God! And make me thine by sacred ties,

Thy son, thy servant, bought with blood. With heart and eyes, and lifted hands, For thee I long, to thee I look ; As trav❜llers do in thirsty lands

Pant for the cooling water-brook.

O may thy love inspire my tongue;
Salvation then shall be my song;
And all my pow'rs shall join to bless
The Lord my strength and righteousness.

12. Praise to God.

GIVE thanks to God: he reigns above,
Kind are his thoughts, his name is love:
His
mercy ages past have known,
And ages long to come shall own.

Let the redeemed of the Lord
The wonders of his grace record:
Israel, the nation whom he chose,
And rescu'd from their mighty foes.

In their distress to God they cry'd,
God was their Saviour and their guide,
He led their march, far wand'ring round,
'Twas the right path to Canaan's ground.

Thus when our first release we gain
From sin's old yoke, and Satan's chain,
We have this desert world to pass,
A dang'rous and a tiresome place.

He feeds and clothes us all the way,
He guides our footsteps lest we stray,
He guards us with a pow'rful hand,
And brings us to the heav'nly land.

O let the saints with joy record
The truth and goodness of the Lord!
How great his works! how kind his ways!
Let ev'ry tongue pronounce his praise.

13. God sees all.

LORD, thou hast search'd and seen me thro';
Thine eye commands with piercing view
My rising and my resting hours,
My heart and flesh, with all their pow'rs.

My thoughts, before they are my own,
Are to my God distinctly known;
He knows the words I mean to speak,
Ere from my op'ning lips they break.

Within thy circling pow'r I stand;
On ev'ry side I find thy hand;
Awake, asleep, at home, abroad,
I am surrounded still with God.

Amazing knowledge, vast and great!
What large extent! what lofty height!
My soul, with all the pow'rs I boast,
Is in the boundless prospect lost.

O may these thoughts possess my breast,
Where'er I rove, where'er I rest!
Nor let my weaker passions dare
Consent to sin, for God is there.

14. God the Believer's Refuge.

DEAR Refuge of my weary soul,
On thee, when sorrows rise,
On thee, when waves of trouble roll,
My fainting hope relies.

While hope revives, tho' press'd with fears,

·

And I can say My God,'

Beneath thy feet I spread my cares,

And pour my woes abroad.

To thee I tell each rising grief,
For thou alone canst heal;
Thy word can bring a sweet relief
For ev'ry pain I feel.

But O! when gloomy doubts prevail,
I fear to call thee mine;
The springs of comfort seem to fail,
And all my hopes decline.

Yet, gracious God, where shall I flee?
Thou art my only trust;

And still my soul will cleave to thee, Tho' prostrate in the dust.

Hast thou not bid me seek thy face,
And shall I seek in vain ?

And can the ear of sov'reign grace
Be deaf when I complain?

No, still the ear of sov'reign grace
Attends the mourner's pray'r;
O may I ever find access

To breathe my sorrows there.

Thy mercy-seat is open still;
Here let my soul retreat,
With humble hope attend thy will,
And wait beneath thy feet.

15. God precious.

My God! the spring of all my joys,
The life of my delights!

The glory of my brightest days,
And comfort of my nights!
