The year of jubilee is come,
Return, ye ransom'd sinners, home,
The gospel trumpet sounds,
Let all the nations hear,
And earth's remotest bounds
Before the throne appear.
The year of jubilee is come,
Return, ye ransom'd sinners, home.

200. Prayer for Gospel Success. CAPTAIN of thine enlisted host, Display thy glorious banner high ; The summons send from coast to coast, And call a num'rous army nigh, A solemn jubilee proclaim, Proclaim the great sabbatic day; Assert the glories of thy name,

Spoil Satan of his wish'd-for prey. Bid, bid thy heralds publish loud The peaceful blessings of thy reign; And when they speak of sprinkling blood, Thy myst'ry to the heart explain. Fight for thyself, O Jesus, fight,

The travail of thy soul regain; Before the blind make darkness light, And crooked paths do thou make plain.

201. The Excellency of Scripture. FATHER of mercies, in thy word What endless glory shines!

For ever be thy name ador'd
For these celestial lines.
Here springs of consolation rise
To cheer the fainting mind;
And thirsty souls receive supplies,
And sweet refreshment find.

When guilt and terror, pain and grief
United rend the heart,
Here sinners meet divine relief,
And cool the raging smart.

Here the Redeemer's welcome voice
Spreads heav'nly peace around,

And life, and everlasting joys,
Attend the blissful sound.

may these heav'nly pages My ever dear delight,

be

And still new beauties may I see,
And still increasing light.

Divine instructor, gracious Lord,
Be thou for ever near;
Teach me to love thy sacred word,
And view my Saviour there!

202. Salvation by Grace.

GRACE! 'tis a charming sound!
Harmonious to the ear!

Heav'n with the echo shall resound,
And all the earth shall hear.
Grace first contriv'd a way
To save rebellious man,

And all the steps that grace display,
Which drew the wondrous plan.

Grace first inscrib'd my name
In God's eternal book;

'Twas grace that gave me to the Lamb,
Who all my sorrows took,

Grace led my roving feet
To tread the heav'nly road;
And new supplies each hour I meet,
While pressing on to God.

Grace taught my soul to pray,
And made my eyes o'erflow;

'Twas grace

which kept me to this day,

And will not let me go.

Grace all the work shall crown,

Thro' everlasting days;

Grace lays in heav'n the topmost stone,

And well deserves the praise.

203.

The Scriptures make wise.

GREAT God, with wonder, and with praise,
On all thy works I look;

But still thy wisdom and thy grace
Shine brighter in thy book.

Lord make me understand thy law,
Shew what my faults have been;
And from thy gospel let me draw
Pardon for all my sin.

Here would I learn how Christ has dy'd
To save my soul from hell,

Not all the books on earth beside,
Such heav'nly wonders tell.
Then let me love my Bible more,
And take a fresh delight,

By day to read these wonders o'er,
And meditate by night.

204. God's Covenant unchangeable.

How oft have sin and Satan strove
To rend my soul from thee, my God?
But everlasting is thy love,

And Jesus seals it with his blood.

The oath and promise of the Lord
Join to confirm the wond'rous grace;
Eternal pow'r performs the word,
And fills all heav'n with endless praise.
Amidst temptations sharp and long,
My soul to this dear refuge flies;
Hope is my anchor, firm and strong,
While tempests blow and billows rise.
The gospel bears my spirit up;
A faithful and unchanging God
Lays the foundation for my hope,
In oaths, and promises, and blood.

205. Sin and Grace.

OUR father ate forbidden fruit,
And from his glory fell;

And we his children thus were brought
To death, and near to hell.

Blest be the Lord, that sent his Son
To take our flesh and blood:
his own,

He, for our lives, gave up

To make our peace with God. High on a glorious throne he reigns, And by his pow'r divine

Redeems us from the slavish chains

Of Satan and of sin.

Thence shall the Lord to judgment come,
And, with a sov'reign voice,
Shall call and break up ev'ry tomb,
While waking saints rejoice.

O may I then with joy appear
Before the Judge's face,

And with the bless'd assembly there
Sing his redeeming grace.

206. Redemption finished.

HARK! the voice of love and mercy
Sounds aloud from Calvary!
See! it rends the rocks asunder,
Shakes the earth, and veils the sky!

It is finish'd!'

Hear the dying Saviour cry!

It is finish'd! O what pleasure
Do these charming words afford!
Heavenly blessings without measure,
Flow to us from Christ the Lord,
It is finish'd!

Saints, the dying words record,
