GOD, JEHOVAH. GOD IN TRINITY, GOD THE FATHER, HIS NAMES, PERFECTIONS, AND PRAISE. 1. God All THE great Jehovah reigns Upon a throne sublime; And from his own eternity Ordains the wastes of time. This great Jehovah's mine, The saiņt in rapture cries ; And to this everlasting Rock My joyful spirit flies. Immense salvation flows; My grateful bosom glows. While life and breath are giv'n; And his unceasing praise shall run Thro' all the days of heav'n B 2. God glorious. Great God, my Maker, and my King, Of thee I’It speak, of thee I'll sing; All thou hast done, and all thou dost Declare thee good, proclaim thee just. Thy ancient thoughts, and firm decrees, Thy threat’nings and thy promises, The joys of heaven, the pains of hell, What angels taste, what devils feel. Thy terrors and thine acts of grace, Thy threat'ning rod and smiling face, Thy wounding, and thy healing word, A world undone, a world restord: While these excite my fear and joy ; While these my tuneful lips employ : Accept, O Lord, the humble song, The tribute of a trembling tongue. 3. God good. Ye humble souls, approach your God, With songs of sacred praise, And kind are all his ways. In him we live and move; The wonders of his love. He gave his Son, his only Son, To ransom rebel worms; 'Tis here he makes his goodness knowa In its diviner forms, To this dear refuge, Lord, we come, 'Tis here our hope relies; A safe defence, a peaceful home, When storms of trouble rise, Thine eye beholds, with kind regard, The souls who trust in thee; With bliss divinely free, What honours shall we raise? Can render equal praise. 4. God the Saint's Portion From pole to pole let others roam, And search in vain for bliss; The Lord my portion is. Rules heav'n, and earth, and sea, His person fixes all my love, His blood renoves my fear; His arm preserves me here. His Spirit is my guide; And all my wants supply'd. For him I count as gain each loss, Disgrace, for him, renown; Well may I glory in his cross, While he prepares my crown! Let worldlings then indulge their boast, How much they gain or spend; Their joys must soon give up the ghost, But mine shall know no end. 5. Divine Sovereignty. KEEP silence all created things, And wait your Maker's nod: My soul stands trembling, while she sings The honours of her God, Hang on his firm decree: Nor borrows leave to be. |
