EEK ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

St. Matt. vi. 33.

One thing only needs thy care,
Seek thou that by faith and prayer,
That all glorious realm above,
Scene of righteousness and love;
And what more thou need'st below
He thou trustest will bestow.

13.

EAR not: for I am with thee.

God.

O say not thou art left of God,

Because His tokens in the sky

Thou canst not read; this earth He trod
To teach thee He was ever nigh.

St. Luke vi. 12.

Bless'd Jesu, Thou, on Heaven intent,
Whole nights hast in devotion spent ;
But I, frail creature, soon am tired,
And all my zeal is soon expired.

Shine on me, Lord, new life impart !
Fresh ardours kindle in my heart!
One ray of Thy all-quickening light
Dispels the sloth and clouds of night.

OUR light affliction, which is but for a

moment, worketh for us a far more

exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

2 Cor. iv. 17.

Snatch'd sudden from th' avenging rod,
Safe in the bosom of thy God,

How wilt thou then look back, and smile
On thoughts that bitterest seem'd erewhile,
And bless the pangs that made thee see,
This was no world of rest for thee!

WHEREFORE let them that suffer

I Pet. iv. 19.

Either grief will not come or if it must,
Do not forecast:

And while it cometh, it is almost past.
Away distrust:

My God hath promised; He is just.

VERY man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He 1 John iii. 3.

is pure.

Good Lord! through this world's troubled way
Thy children's path secure;

And lead them onward, day by day,

Kindly, like Thee, and pure.
Be theirs to do Thy work of love,
All erring souls to win;
Amid a sinful world to move,

Yet give no smile to sin.

Refresh'd and glad, when faint and worn
We laid us down at even:

How sweet when last we sink to rest,
Pallid and spent-amid the blest
To wake in Heaven!

N Thy light shall we see light.

Ps. xxxvi. 9.

Bend not thy light-desiring eyes below;
There thy own shadow waits upon thee ever;
But raise thy looks to Heaven, and lo!

The shadeless sun rewards thy weak endeavour. Who sees the dark, is dark; but turn towards the light,

And thou becom'st like that which fills thy sight.

TH

HE Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above.

Gen. xlix. 25.

Twice bless'd shall all our' blessings be,
When we can look through them to Thee;
When each glad heart its tribute pays,
Of love and gratitude and praise.

UNTIL the day dawn, and the day star

Visit every soul of Thine,

2 Pet. i. 19.

Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;

Fill us, Lord, with light divine,
Scatter all our unbelief;

More and more Thyself display,
Shining to the perfect day.

25.

ORD, that I might receive my sight.

St. Mark x. 51.

Lord, we sit and cry to Thee,
Like the blind beside the way :
Make our darken'd souls to see

The glory of Thy perfect day!
Lord, rebuke our sullen night,
And give Thyself unto our sight.
