24.

St. Matthias's Day.

YE hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.

There is a blessed Home
Beyond this land of woe,
Where trials never come,

Nor tears of sorrow flow.
There is a land of peace,

I Cor. ii. 9.

Good Angels know it well;
Glad songs that never cease
Within its portals swell.
Look up, ye saints of God,
Nor fear to tread below
The path your Saviour trod
Of daily toil and woe;
Wait but a little while
In uncomplaining love,
His own most gracious smile
Shall welcome you above.

25.

PRAISE God in His holiness.

Ps. cl. I.

Lord, in this dust Thy sovereign voice
First quicken'd love divine;

I am all Thine,-Thy care and choice,
My very praise is Thine.

26.

LOOKING unto Jesus.

OOKING unto Jesus the author and
Heb. xii. 2.

What matter whether through delight,

Or led through vale of tears,

Or seen at once, or hid from sight,

The glorious way appears,

If step by step the path we see

That leads, my Saviour, up to Thee.

27.

As many as I love, I rebuke and

chasten.

Rev. iii. 19.

That thou may'st pray for them thy foes are given,
That thou may'st look to God I bring thee pain,
I bring thee cares that thou may'st look to Heaven,
I bring thee fretful friends that thou may'st train
Thy soul to patience; what thou deemest gain

When closest wreathing chains around thy soul,
I rend from thine own bleeding heart in twain,

That He who bought may have thy spirit whole, Spurs that may give thee pain but urge thee to the goal.

28.

HEY rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. Rev. iv. 8.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name in earth and
sky and sea,

Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

29.

HOUGH I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no

evil for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Ps. xxiii. 4.

When death is coming near,
When thy heart shrinks in fear,
And thy limbs fail,

Then raise thy hands and pray
To Him who smooths thy way
Through the dark vale.

Prov. xxiii. 4.

Deny me wealth; far, far remove

The lure of power or name;

Hope thrives in straits, in weakness Love,
And Faith in this world's shame.

3.

UMBLE yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He

may exalt you in due time.

I Pet. v. 6.

Submit yourself to God, and you shall find,
God fights the battles of a will resign'd.

E that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

IN

There is a safe and secret place

Beneath the wings divine,

Ps. xci. 1.

Reserved for all the heirs of grace;

O, be that refuge mine!

5.

N the multitude of the sorrows that I had in my heart: Thy comforts have refreshed my soul. Ps. xciv. 19.

F

Though gathering sorrows swell my breast,
Speak but the word-and peace and rest
Shall set my troubled spirit free,

In sweet communion, Lord, with Thee.

6.

EAR thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee. Isa. xli. 10.

O Thou, whose all-enlivening ray
Can turn my darkness into day,

Disperse, great God, my mental gloom,
And with Thyself my soul illume.
