True, 'tis a ftrait and thorny Road,
And mortal Spirits tire and faint;
But they forget the Mighty GOD,
That feeds the Strength of ev'ry Saint.

The Mighty God, whofe matchless Pow'r
Is ever new and ever young,
And firm endures while endless Years
Their everlasting Circles run.

From Thee, the overflowing Spring,
Our Souls fhall drink a fresh Supply,
While fuch as truft their native Strength
Shall melt away and droop and die.

Swift as an Eagle cuts the Air,

We'll mount aloft to thine Abode: On Wings of Love our Souls fhall fly, Nor tire amidst the Heav'nly Road.

HYMN

LXXIX. L. M.

CHRIST worthy of all Praise.

WH

THAT equal Honours fhall we bring, To Thee, O LORD our GOD, the (LAMB, When all the Notes that Angels fing Are far inferior to thy Name?

Worthy is He that once was flain,

The PRINCE of Peace that groan'd and dy'd, Worthy to rife, and live, and reign

At his Almighty FATHER's Side,

Bleffings for ever on the LAMB,

Who bore the Curfe for wretched Men : Let Angels found his facred Name, And ev'ry Creature fay, Amen.

HYMN LXXX. 87.
The Traitor fuing for Pardon.
AVIOUR, canft Thou love a Traitor?
Canft thou Love a Child of Wrath?

Can a Hell-deferving Creature
Be the Purchase of thy Death?

Is thy Blood fo efficacious,
As to make my Nature clean?
Is thy Sacrifice fo precious
As to free me from my Sin?

Sin on every

Hand furrounds me,

No Acquittance can I hear;
Pangs of Unbelief confound me,
Help me LORD my Grief to bear.
Here then is my Refolution,

At thy dearest Feet to fall;
Here I'll meet with Condemnation,
Or a Freedom from my Thrall.

Now deny thy Grace and Mercy,
If Thou canft, to wretched me;
Lay afide thy Love and Pity,
If Thou canft, and let me die :
If I meet with Condemnation,
Juftly I deferve the fame
If I meet with free Salvation,
I will magnify thy Name.

;

HYMN LXXXI. 75.
The importunate Sinner.

Racious LORD, incline thine Ear,

GMy Complaint vouchfafe to hear ;;

Sore diftreft with Guilt am I,
Give me CHRIST, or elfe I die.

Wealth and Honour I difdain,
Earthly Comforts all are vain;
They can never fatisfy :
Give me CHRIST, &c.

LORD, deny me what thou wilt;
Only take away my Guilt:
Mourning at thy Feet I lie;
Give me CHRIST, &c.

All unholy, all unclean,
Nothing am I else but Sin;
I to Thee for Mercy fly,
Give me CHRIST, &c.

Thou doft freely fave the Loft;:
In thy Grace alone I trust;
Unto Thee lift up my cry,
Give me CHRIST, &c.

O my GOD, what fhall I fay?
Take, O take my Sins away!
JESU's Blood to me apply;
Give me CHRIST, &C.

Does the FATHER feem to frown?
I take Shelter in the SON :
JESUS, to thine Arms 1 fly;
Save me, LORD, or else I die.

HYMN LXXXII. C. M. The Sun of Righteousness arifing. Ow heavy is the Night That hangs upon our Eyes,

H

Till CHRIST with his reviving Light
O'er our dark Souls arife

Our guilty Spirits dread

To meet the Wrath of Heav'n;
But in his Righteousness array'd,
We see our Sins forgiv'n.

Unholy and impure

Are all our Thoughts and Ways,
His Hands infected Nature cure
With fanctifying Grace.

The Pow'rs of Hell agree
To hold our Souls in vain ;
He fets the Sons of Bondage free,
And breaks the curfed Chain.

LORD, we adore thy Ways,
To bring us near to GoD;

Thy Sov'reign Pow'r, thy healing Grace,
And thine atoning Blood.
