Thy goodness bade me be,
And ftill prolongs my days;

1 fee my natal hour return,
And bless the day that I was born.

A clod of living earth,
I glorify thy name,

From whom alone my birth,
And all my bleffings came;
Creating and preserving grace
Let all that is within me praise.

Long as I live beneath,

To thee, O let me live!
To thee my ev'ry breath,

In thanks and praises give:
Whate'er I have, whate'er I am,
Shall magnify my Maker's name.

My foul and all its pow'rs,
Thine, wholly thine fhall be;
All, all my happy hours

I confecrate to thee:

Me to thine image now reftore,
And I fhall praise thee evermore.

I wait thy will to do,

As angels do in heav'n ;
In Chrift a creature new,
Eternally forgiv'n;

I wait thy righteous will to prove,
All fanctify'd by perfect love.

Then when the work is done,
The work of faith with pow't,
Receive thy favour'd fon,
In death's triumphant hour:

And kifs my raptur'd foul away.

HYMN CCCX.

OW away with our fears,
The glad morning appears,

Now

When an heir of falvation was born!
From Jehovah I came,

For his glory I am,

And to him I.with finging return.

Thou, my Jefus, alone,

Art the fountain I own
Of my life and felicity here;
And I cheerfully fing

My Redeemer and King,
Till his figns in the heavens appear,

I with thanks do rejoice
In thy fatherly choice.

Of my ftate and condition below;
If of parents I came,

Who did honour thy name,

'Twas thy wisdom appointed it fe,

O the infinite cares,

And temptations, and fnares,

Which thy hand hath conducted me through!

O the bleffings beftow'd

By a bountiful God,

And the mercies eternally new!

5 What a mercy is this,

What a heaven of blifs, How unspeakably happy am I!

Gather'd into thy fold,

With thy people enroll'd,

With thy people to live and to die!

6 Now all honour and praise
To the Father of grace,
To the Spirit, and Son, I return:
1 the business pursue,

7

He hath made me to do,

And rejoice that I ever was born.

In a rapture of joy,

All my life I'll employ,

The great Author of life to proclaim;

'Tis worth living for this,

To adminifter blifs,

And falvation in Jefus's name.

8 All my remnant of days
I will fpend in his praife,

Who hath dy'd the whole world to redeem;
Be they many or few,

All my days are his duc,

And they all are devoted to him!

I

PARENTS AND MASTERS.

HYMN CCCXI. C. M.

OD, only wife, almighty, good,

G Send forth thy truth and light,

To point us out the narrow road
And guide our steps aright;

2 Tofteer our dangerous course between
The rocks on either hand;

[ocr errors]

And fix us in the golden mean,
And bring our charge to land.

3 Made apt by thy fufficient grace,
To teach, as taught by thee,
We come to train in all thy ways,
Our rifing progeny.

4 Their selfish will in time fubdue,
And mortify their pride;

And lend their youth a facred clew
To find the Crucify'd!

5 We would in ev'ry step look up,
By thine example taught,
T'alarm their fear, excite their hope,
And rectify their thought.

6 We would persuade their hearts t'obey,
With mildeft zeal proceed;
And never take the harsher way,
When love will do the deed.

7 For this we afk, in faith fincere,
'The wisdom from above;

To touch their hearts with Alial fear,
And pure ingenuous love!

8 To.watch their will, to fenfe inclin❜d,
Withhold the hurtful food;

I

And gently bend their tender mind,
And draw their fouls to God.

HYMN CCCXII.

OW fhall I walk my God to please, And spread content and happiness, O'er all beneath my care ?

A pattern to my household give,
And as a guardian-angel live
As Jefu's meffenger?

2 The oppofite extremes I fee,
Remiffness and severity,

And know not how to fhun
The precipice on either hand,
While in the narrow path I ftand,
And dread to venture on.

3 Shall I, through indolence supine,
Neglect, betray, the charge divine,
My delegated pow'r?

The fouls I from my Lord receive,
Of whom I an account muft give,
At that tremendous hour?

4 Lord over all, and God most high!
Jefus, to thee for help I fly ;
For conftant pow'r and grace;
That by thy Spirit taught and led,
I may with confidence proceed,
And all thy footsteps trace.

5 O teach me my first leffon now!
That I to thy fweet yoke may bow,
Thine eafy fervice prove,
Lowly and meek in heart I fee,
The art of governing like thee,
Is governing by love.

ATHER of lights, thy needful aid
To us that afk impart;

Miftrustful of ourselves, afraid
Of our own treach'rous heart.
