$ That is, the Lord is inflexibly just in punishing the conteinners of his laws; and, from the rectitude of his nåture, will be as far from letting moral evil pass with impunity, as fire is from not consuming its proper fuel.

But here the English translator is wrong in rendering it, And this lund; for, he doth not distribute it all in this verse, but only a part.

* I have observed before, that in Scripture we commonly find the accusative pronoun after a verb, although the noun meant by it is also expressed; which repetition the grammarians call an extraordinary explanation, so that the Bashan means here the same as what is understood by the accusative pronoun them, which the English translator bath mistaken for an additional name given to that country; but the grammatical construction of the Hebrew text cannot bear it, by the nx, before the Bashun, being the sign of the accusative case, the same as Onx, them; the latter part of this verse should therefore be rendered thus:-“ And called them, even the cities of Bashan, Havoth-jair, after bis own name, &c."

$ 59397 39737 7in means the midst of the river, or the channel into which the river runs, and the other border; 'not half the valley, as the English translator improperly renders it.

$ Ashdoth means descent, or declivity. || This is no command for him to do any thing, but an observation he bids him make for his encouragement.
