וְעֵת לְדָבֵּר: עֵת לֶאֱהב וְעֵת לִשְׂבֹא עֵת מִלְחָמָה * וְעֵת שָׁלֹוֹם: מַה־יִתְרוֹן הָעוֹשָׂה בַּאֲשֶׁר הוּא 9 עָמֵל : רָאִיתִי אֶת־הָעִנְיָן אֲשֶׁר נָתַן הִים לִבְנֵי י הָאָדָם לַעֲנוֹת בּוֹ: אֶת־הַכּל עֶשֶׂה יפה בְּעִתּוֹ 11 גַּם אֶת־הָעֹלָם נָתַן בְּלִבָּם מִבְּלִי אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יִמְצָא הָאָדָם אֶת־הַמַּעֲשֶׂה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה הָאֱלֹהִים מֵרְאש וְעַד־סוֹף : יָדַעְתִּי כִּי אֵין טוֹב בָּם כִּי אִם־ ? לִשְׁמוֹחַ וְלַעֲשׂוֹת טוֹב בְּחִיו : וְגַם כָּל־הָאָדָם 15 שֶׁאבָל שָׁתָה וְרָאָה טוֹב בְּכָל־־עֲמָלוֹ מַתַּת צהִים הִיא: יָדַעְתִּי כִּי כָּל־אֲשֶׁר יעשה הצהים 14 הוּא יִהְיֶה לְעוֹלָם עָלָיו אֵין לְהוֹסִיף וּמִמֶנוּ אֵין לִגְרוֹעַ וְהָהִים עָשָׂה שֶׁיִּרְאוּ מִלְפָנָיו : מַה־שֶׁהָיָה טו כְּבָר הוּא וַאֲשֶׁר לִהְיוֹת כְּבָר הָיָה וְהָאֱלֹהִים יבקש אֶת־נִרְדָּף : וְעוֹד רָאִיתִי תַּחַת הַשָּׁמֶשׁ מְקָוֹם 16 הַמִּשְׁפָּט שָׁמָּה הָרֶשַׁע וּמְקוֹם הַצדֶק שָׁמָה הָרֶשַׁע : אָמַרְתִּי אֲנִי בְּלִבִּי אֶת־הַצְדִיק וְאֶת־17 הָרָשָׁע יִשְׁפּט הָיֶהִים כִּי־עֵת לְכָל־חֵפֶץ וְעַל־ כָּל־הַמַעֲשֶׂה שָׁם : אָמַרְתִּי אֲנִי בְּלִבִּי עַל־דְברת 18 בְּנֵי הָאָדָם לְבָרֶם הָאֱלֹהִים וְלִרְאוֹת שְׁהֶם בְּהֵמָה הֵמָּה לָהֶם: כִּי מִקְרֶה בְנֵי־הָאָדָם וּמִקְרֶה הַבְּהֵמָה 19 , וּמִקְרֶה אֶחָד לָהֶם בְּמִוֹת זֶה בֶּן מִוֹת זֶה וְרָוּחַ אֶחָד לַכּל וּמוֹתַר הָאָדָם מִן־הַבְּהֵמָה אָיִן כִּי הַכֹּל הָבֶל : הַבְּל הוֹלֵךְ אֶל־מָקוֹם אֶחָד הַכֹּל כ

This up, that he may give to him is also vanity. that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

20 Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.

CHAP. III.

To every thing there is

a season, and a time

heaven:

21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and into every purpose under the knowledge, and in equity: yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity, and a great evil.

2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 A time to kill, and a time heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

22 For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vex-to ation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?

23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.

24 There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the

עָמֵל תַּחַת הַשָּׁמֶשׁ שֶׁאֲנִיחֵנוּ לָאָדָם שֶׁיִּהְיֶה אַחֲרֵי : וּמִי יוֹדֵעַ הֶחָכָם יִהְיֶה אוֹ סָכָל וְיִשְׁלַט בְּכָל־עֲמָלִי 19 שֶׁעָמַלְתִּי וְשֶׁחָכַמְתִּי תַּחַת הַשָּׁמֶשׁ גַּם־זֶה הֶבֶל : וְסַבּוֹתִי אֲנִי לִיאָשׁ אֶת־־לבי עַל כָּל־־העמלם שֶׁעָמַלְתִּי תַּחַת הַשָּׁמֶשׁ: כִּי"יש אָן־ם שעמלו 21 בְּחָכְמָה וּבְדַעַת וּבְכִשְׁרוֹן וּלְאָדָם שֵׁא עָכָל־בּוֹ יִתְּנֶנּוּ חֶלְקוֹ גַּם־זֶה הֶבֶל וְרָעָה רַבָּה : כִּי מֶה־יהוה ?? לְאָדָם בְּכָל־עֲמָלוֹ וּבְרַעְיוֹן לִבּוֹ שֶׁהוּא עָמֵל תַּחַת הַשֶׁמֶשׁ: כִּי כָל־יָמָיו מַכְאֹבִים וָכַעַס עִנְיָנוֹ גַּם־23 בְּלִילָה לֹא־שָׁכַב לִבּוֹ גַּם־זֶה הֶבֶל הוא : אֵין־ 34 טְוֹב בָּאָדָם שֶׁיֹּאכַל וְשָׁתָה וְהֶרְאָה אֶת־נַפְשָׁו טוֹב בַּעֲמָלו ס־זה רָאִיתִי אָנִי כִּי מֵד הָהִים הִיא: כִּי מִי יֹאכַל וּמִי יָחוּשׁ הוּץ מִמֶּנִּי: כִּי 25 לְאָדָם שְׁטוֹב לְפָנָיו נָתַן חָכְמָה וְדַעַת וְשִׂמְחָה וְלַחְוֹטֶא נָתַן עִנְיָן לאֶסֶף וְלִכְנוֹס לָתֵת לְטוב לפני הָהִים גַּם־זֶה הֶבֶל וּרְעוּת רוּחַ : לַכֹּל זְמָן וְעֵתו לְכָל־חֵפֶץ תַּחַת הַשָּׁמָיִם: עֵת לָלֶדֶת וְעֵת לָמוּת 2 עֵת לָטַעַת וְעֵת לַעֲקוֹר נָטִיעַ: עֵת לַהֲרֹג וְעֵת 3 לִרְפֿוֹא עֵת לִפְרוֹץ וְעֵת לִבְנוֹת : עֵת לִבְכּוֹת 4 וְעֵת לִשְׂחוֹק עֵת סְפוֹד וְעֵת רְקוֹד: עֵת לְהַשְׁלִיךְ אֲבָנִים וְעֵת כְּנוֹס אֲבָנִים עֵת לַחֲבֿוֹק וְעֵת לִרְחֹק מְחַבֵּק: עֵת לְבַקֵשׁ וְעֵת לְאַבֵּד אֶת לִשְׁמוֹר עת 6 לְהַשְׁלִיךְ: עֵת לִקְרוֹעַ וְעֵת לִתְפּוֹר עֵת לַחֲשׁוֹת 7

8 I gathered me also silver, the king? even that which and gold, and the peculiar hath been already done.

13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.

14 The wise man's eves are in his head, but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them

9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusa- all. lem: also my wisdom remained with me,

10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy: for my heart rejoiced in all my labour; and this was my portion of all my labour.

15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me: and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.

16 For there is no remenbrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is, in the days to come shall be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity 17 Therefore I hated life; and vexation of spirit, and because the work that is there was no profit under wrought under the sun is the sun. grievous unto me: for all is 12 And I turned myself vanity and vexation of spirit. to behold wisdom, and mad- 18 Yea, I hated all my ness, and folly: for what can labour which I had taken§ unthe man do that cometh after der the sun; because I should
