Sinners, why reject your God

To God the universal King
Thy ways, O Lord with wise design 9
Thro' all the various shifting scene

10
The mighty frame of glorious grace 43
The heavens invite mine eye

49
True 'tis a steep and thorny road 54
The Lord ! how fearful is his name 57
'Tis not for victry, Lord, we pray 70
The city gates are open'd wide

74
The midnight shadows flee away 75
'There is a fountain fill'd with blood 87
'Tis a point I long to know

92
The Lord will happiness divine
Thus far my God hath led me on 109
The wondering nations have beheld

114
Thou only Sov'reign of my heart 118
Thy life I read, my dearest Lord 123
Tho' foes and fears beset the way 136
To thee the first, the perfect fair 150
To thee, my God, my days are known 152
The spacious firmament on high

155
The Lord my pasture shall prepare 156
The billows swell, the winds are high

181
'Tis past-the dreadful stormy night 182
Thou only source of true delight

The Lord proclaims his grace abroad
Tho'cloudy skies, and northern blast
The Spirit breathes upon the word
The Saviour hides his face
This tyrant sin usurps my heart
'Tis pure delight without alloy

HYMNS,

&c.

HYMN I. L. M.
The Creator and Creatures.

I.

[ocr errors]

OD is a name my soul adores,
Th’ALMIGHTY THREE, th' ETERNAL

ONE;
Nature and grace, with all their pow'rs,
Confess the Infinite Unknown.

II.

From thy great Self thy Being springs ;
Thou art thy own Original,
Made up

of uncreated things,
And self-sufficience bears them all.

III.

Thy voice produc'd the seas and spheres, Bid the waves roar, and planets shine: But nothing like thyself appears, Through all these spacious works of thine. Still restless nature dies and grows; From change to change the creatures run; Thy Being no succession knows, And all thy vast designs are one.

IV.

A

V.

A glance of thine runs through the globes, Rules the bright world, and moves their

frame; Broad sheets of light compose thy robes, Thy guards are form’d of living flame.

VI.
Thrones and dominions round thee fall,
And worship in submissive forms;
Thy presence shakes this lower ball,
This little dwelling-place of worms.

VII.
How shall affrighted mortals dare
To sing thy glory or thy grace,
Beneath thy feet we lie so far,
And see bu shadows of thy face?

VIII.
Who can behold the blazing light?
Who can approach consuming fame?
None but thy wisdom knows thy might;
None but thy word can speak thy name.

HYMN II. C. M.
Worshipping with Fear,

I.
WH
THO dares attempt th' Eternal name

With notes of niortal sound?
Dangers and glories guard the theme,
And spread despair around.

II.
Destruction waits t'obcy his frown,

And heav'n attends his smile:
