Here will I rest, and build my hope,
Nor murmur at his rod;

He's more than all the world to me,
My health, my life, my God.

PSALM 43. L. M.

Prayer for light and truth.-v. 3, 4. LET me with light and truth be blest, Be these my guides, to lead my way, Till on thy holy hill I rest,

And in thy sacred temple pray.

Then to thine altar will I go,

To thee, my God, my only joy;

My grateful heart with love shall glow,
While songs of praise my lips employ.

PSALM 45. PART 1. L. M.

Glory and government of Christ.

NOW be my heart inspir'd to sing
The glories of my Saviour-King:
Jesus the Lord; how heavenly fair
His form! how bright his beauties are!
O'er all the sons of human race
He shines with far superior grace ;
Love from his lips divinely flows,
And blessings all his state compose.

Thy throne, O God, for ever stands;
Grace is the sceptre of thy hands;
Thy laws and works are just and right,
Justice and grace are thy delight.
God, thine own God, has richly shed
His oil of gladness on thy head;

And with his sacred Spirit blest
His first-born Son above the rest.

PART 2. L. M.

The union of Christ and his church.
THE King of saints, how fair his face,
Adorn'd with majesty and grace!
He comes with blessings from above,
And wins the nations to his love.

At his right hand our eyes behold
The queen array'd in purest gold;
Fair daughter, let thine heart forget
The idols of thy native state.

So shall the King the more rejoice
In thee, the favourite of his choice;
Let him be lov'd, and yet ador'd,
For he's thy Maker, and thy Lord.
O happy hour, when thou shalt rise
To his fair palace in the skies,
And all thy sons, a numerous train,
Each like a prince in glory reign!

PSALM 46. PART 1.

L. M.

God a very present help in trouble.

GOD is the refuge of his saints,
When storms of sharp distress invade ;
Ere we can offer our complaints,

Behold him present with his aid.

Let mountains from their seats be hurl'd
Down to the deep, and buried there;
Convulsions shake the solid world;
Our faith shall never yield to fear.

Loud let the troubled ocean roar,
In sacred peace our souls abide;
While every nation, every shore,
Trembles, and dreads the swelling tide.

PSALM 46. PART 2. L. M.

The promises of God a sure ground of confidence.
THERE is a stream, whose gentle flow
Supplies the city of our God;

Life, love, and joy, still gliding through,
And watering our divine abode.

That sacred stream, thy holy word,
That all our raging fear controls;
Sweet peace thy promises afford,
And give new strength to fainting souls.
Sion enjoys her Monarch's love,

Secure against a threatening hour;
Nor can her firm foundations move,

Built on his truth, and arm'd with power.
PSALM 47. c. M.

The ascension and reign of Christ.

1 O FOR a shout of sacred joy,
To God, the sovereign King!
Let every land their tongues employ,
And hymns of triumph sing.

Jesus, our God, ascends on high!

His heavenly guards around

Attend him rising through the sky,

With trumpets' joyful sound.

While angels shout and praise their King,
Let mortals learn their strains;

Let all the earth his honours sing;

O'er all the earth he reigns.

Rehearse his praise with awe profound,
Let knowledge lead the song;

Nor mock him with a solemn sound,
Upon a thoughtless tongue.

PSALM 48. s. M.

The presence of God in the sanctuary.
GREAT is the Lord our God,
And let his praise be great;
He makes his churches his abode,
His most delightful seat.

These temples of his grace,

How beautiful they stand!
The honours of our native place,

And bulwarks of our land.

In every new distress

We'll to his house repair;

We'll think upon his wondrous grace,

And seek deliverance there.

The God we worship now

Will guide us till we die;

Will be our God while here below,
And ours above the sky.

PSALM 50. c. M.

The last Judgment.

THE Lord, the Judge, before his throne,
Bids the whole earth draw nigh;
The nations near the rising sun,

And near the western sky.

Heaven from above his call shall hear,
Attending angels come;

And earth and hell shall know and fear
His justice and their doom.

"But gather all my saints," he cries,

"That made their peace with God,

"By the Redeemer's sacrifice,

"And seal'd it with his blood.

4 "Their faith and works, brought forth to light, "Shall make the world confess "My sentence of reward is right, “And heaven adore my grace."

PSALM 51. VERSION 1. S. M.
Supplication for mercy.

HAVE mercy, Lord, on me,

As thou wert ever kind;

Let me, oppress'd with conscious guilt,

Thy wonted mercy find.

Blot out, O Lord, my sins,

Nor me in anger view;

Create in me a heart that's clean,
An upright mind renew.

Withdraw not thou thy help,
Nor cast me from thy sight;

Nor let thy Holy Spirit take

His everlasting flight.

The joy thy favour gives

Let me again obtain ;

And thy free Spirit's firm support
My fainting soul sustain.

PSALM 51. VERSION 2. PART 1. L. M.

A penitent pleading for pardon.-v. 1—4.

SHOW pity, Lord, O Lord, forgive;
Let a repenting rebel live;

Are not thy mercies large and free?
May not a sinner trust in thee?

My crimes though great do not surpass
The power and glory of thy grace;
Great God! thy nature hath no bound;
So let thy pardoning love be found.
