VIII.

THE TWO GREAT COMMANDMENTS.

NOW

these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye pass over to possess it; that thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear, therefore, O Israel, and observe to do; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD GOD of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.

THE first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; the LORD our GOD is one LORD. And thou shalt love the LORD thy GOD with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

1 Thou art worthy, O LORD,

To receive glory, and | honor, and power:

2 For Thou hast created all | things;

And for thy pleasure they are, and | were created.

AND the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

All the paths of the LORD are | mercy and truth,
To those that keep his covenant and his testimonies.

AND these words which I command thee this day shall be in thy heart; and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

1 Behold, the LORD our | GOD

Hath showed us his glory | and his greatness:

2 And we have heard his voice

Out of the

midst of the | fire:

3 We have seen this day,

That GOD doth | talk with | man, and he | liveth.

4 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, To fear the LORD our | GOD, for our | good | always:

5 That He might pre serve us a live,

As it is this day.

6 And it shall be our righteousness,

That we observe to do all these com mandments,

7 Before the LORD our | GOD,

As He hath commanded | us.

THE NEW JERUSALEM.

AND I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the

first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from GOD out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of GOD is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, their GOD.

And GOD shall wipe away all | tears from their eyes;
And death shall be no more;

Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor | pain any |
For the former things are passed away.
[more;

AND he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

And the Spirit and the | Bride say, | Come.

And let him that

And let him that

And let him that

heareth say, Come.
thirsteth | come.

willeth take water of | life | freely.

AND there came unto me one of the seven angels, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the Bride, the LAMB's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from GOD, having the glory of GoD: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; and had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.

need of the sun,

And the city had no
Neither of the moon, to shine in it:
For the glory of GOD did | lighten | it,
And the LAMB is the | light there of.

AND the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the LAMB. And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. And the city lieth four-square; and the length is as large as the breadth and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs: the length

and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred forty and four cubits, the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. And I saw no temple therein: for the LORD GOD Almighty and the LAMB are the temple of it.

And there shall in no wise enter | into it
Any thing that de fileth,

Or worketh abomination, or | maketh a | lie:

But they that are written in the LAMB'S | book of life.

AND he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of GOD and of the LAMB. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

And the throne of GOD and of the LAMB shall be in | it;
And his servants shall serve | Him:

[blocks in formation]

And his name shall | be in their foreheads.

AND he saith unto me, Seal not the words of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still and he that is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to render to every one according as his work shall be. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.

Blessed are they that do his commandments,
That they may have right to the tree of life,
And may enter | in

Through the gates | into the city.
