78 LORD, thy word abideth,

And our footsteps guideth;

Who its truth believeth

Light and joy receiveth.

2 When our foes are near us, Then thy Word doth cheer us, Word of consolation,

Message of salvation.

3 When the storms are o'er us,
And dark clouds before us,
Then its light directeth
And our way protecteth.

4 Who can tell the pleasure,
Who recount the treasure,
By thy Word imparted
To the simple-hearted?
5 Word of mercy, giving
Succor to the living;
Word of life, supplying
Comfort to the dying!
6 Oh that we, discerning
Its most holy learning,
Lord, may love and fear thee,
Evermore be near thee!

79 GREAT God, we give thee praise

For all thy wond'rous grace,

Thy kind and condescending ways
To our poor fallen race.

2 Thou hast thy love reveal'd

Beyond what prophets knew ;
Thy Holy Book of truth unseal'd,
To our astonish'd view.

3 We wander now no more

Where darkening errors lead:
But truth by light divine explore,
And wonder while we read.

4 Lord, we adore thy name

For light and truth divine!

From thee the welcome mercies came,
And be the glory thine!

19:

81 GL

YLORIOUS things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God;

He whose word cannot be broken
Formed thee for his own abode;
On the Rock of ages founded,

What can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded,
Thou may'st smile at all thy foes.

2 See, the streams of living waters,
Springing from eternal love,
Still supply thy sons and daughters,
And all fear of want remove:
Who can faint while such a river,
Ever flows our thirst t'assuage?
Blessings which, like God, the giver,
Never fail, from age to age.

82 TRIUMPHANT ZION, lift thy head

From dust, and darkness, and the dead;
Though humbled long, awake at length,
And gird thee with thy Saviour's strength.
2 Put all thy beauteous garments on,
And let thine excellence be known;
Decked in the robes of righteousness,
Thy glories shall the world confess.
8 No more shall foes unclean invade,
And fill thy hallowed walls with dread;
No more shall sin's insulting host
Their victory and thy sorrows boast.

4 The Lord on high has heard thy prayer;
His hand thy ruin shall repair;
Nor will thy watchful monarch cease
To guard thee in eternal peace.
