send them out of the land in haste: for they said, "We be all dead men." 34. And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. 35. And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses: and (f) they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment. 36. And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they (g) lent unto them such things as they required: and they (b) spoiled the Egyptians. 37. And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six (i) hundred thousand on foot that were men, besides children. 38. And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. 39. And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough, which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened: because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry; neither had they prepared for themselves any victual, 40. Now the sojourning (k) of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. 41. And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the self-same day it came to pass, that all

the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. 42. It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD, for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their genera tions. 43. And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron," This is the ordinance of the

passover: there shall no stranger eat "thereof. 44. But every man's servar "that is bought for money, when the "hast circumcised him, then shall he "thereof. 45. All the congrega "tion of Israel shall keep it. 48. And "when a stranger shall sojourn with the " and will keep the passover to the LOR "let all his males be circumcised, an "then let him come near and keep it; " he shall be as one that is born in th "land for no uncircumcised person "eat thereof. 49. One law shall be "him that is home-born, and unto "stranger that sojourneth among you 50. Thus did all the children of Israel; a the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron,

St. Paul speaks of "law" (which was given just after they left Egypt) as 430 years after the covenant, promises to Abraham. The first promise Abraham," in thee shall all families of t "earth be blessed " Gen. xii. 3. was Abraham departed out of Haran, when he 75 years old. Gen xii. 4. Abraham was 100

years old when Isaac was born. Gen. xxi Isaac was 60 at the birth of Jacob. Gen. xxv. 16. And Jacob was 130 when he went to Egypt. Gen. xlvii. 9. So that from the first promi to Abraham to the going down to Egypt wa 215 years. And during all this time Abrahar Isaac, and Jacob, were strangers and sojourner in the lands in which they dwelt. CHAP. XIV.

ND the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2. "Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baal-zephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea. 3. For

Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are intangled in the land, "the wilderness hath shut them in. 4. And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, "that he shall follow after them, and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and "upon all his host; that the Egyptians 66 may know that I am the LORD.' And they did so. 5. And it was told the king of Egypt, that the people fled and the heart of Pharaoh, and of his servants, was turned against the people, and they said, "Why have we done this, that we have

let Israel go from serving us?" 6. And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him. 7. And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them. 8. And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand. 9. But the Egyptians pursued after them (all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen and his army), and de overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth before Baal-zephon. 10. And → when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lift up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them, and they were sore afraid : and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD. 11. And they said unto Moses, "Because there were no "graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away "to die in the wilderness? Wherefore hast

xiii. 21. it is said, "the Lord went before them "by day in a pillar of a cloud," &c.; and in verse 24 below, it is said, "the Lord looked "through the pillar of fire," &c. So that the person here called " the angel of God," is there

"thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth "out of Egypt? 12. Is not this the word "that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, "Let us alone, that we may serve the "Egyptians? For it had been better for us "to serve the Egyptians, than that we should "die in the wilderness." 13. And Moses said to the people, "Fear ye not, stand "still, and see the salvation of the LORD, " which he will shew to you to-day for "the Egyptians whom ye have seen to"day, ye shall see them again no more «for ever. 14. The LORD shall fight "for you, and ye shall hold your peace." 15. And the LORD said unto Moses, "Wherefore criest thou unto me? Speak "unto the children of Israel, that they go "forward. 16. But lift thou up thy rod, "and stretch out thine hand over the sea, " and divide it: and the children of Israel "shall go on dry ground through the "midst of the sea. 17. And I, behold, I "will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, " and they shall follow them: and I will "get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon "all his host, upon his chariots, and upon "his horsemen. 18. And the Egyptians "shall know that I am the LORD, when I "have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, "upon his chariots, and upon his horse"men." 19. And the (1) angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them. 20. And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel, and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these so that the one came not near the other all the night. 21. And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground, and the waters were a wall

unto them on their right hand, and on their left. 23. And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them, to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and his horsemen. 24. And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians, through the pillar of fire, and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians. 25. And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from the face of Israel; "for the LORD fighteth for them, against "the Egyptians.' 26. And the LORD said unto Moses, "Stretch out thine hand "over the sea, that the waters may come "again upon the Egyptians, upon their "chariots, and upon their horsemen." 27. And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his

strength when the morning appeared, and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28. And the waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them: there remained not so much as one of them. 29. But the chil dren of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea: and the waters wer wall unto them on their right hand, and a their left. 30. Thus the LORD saved I that day out of the hand of the Egyptin: and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon sea-shore. 31. And Israel saw that gr work which the LORD did upon the Egy tians and the people feared the Lo and believed the LORD, and his serv Moses.

before the LORD to morrow; and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi." 1. And Moses said unto Korah, "Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi : 9. Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the TH tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation, to minister unto them? 10. And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also? 11. For which cause both thou, and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what (f) is Aaron that ye murmur against him?" 12. And Moses sent to Il Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab : ich said, "We will not come up. 13. Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land, that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us? 14. Moreover, thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields, and vineyards: wilt thou (g) put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up." 15. And loses was very wroth, and said unto the ORD, "Respect not thou their offering:

I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them." 6. And Moses said unto Korah, "Be thou and all thy company before the LORD; thou, and they, and Aaron tomorrow: 17. And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD, every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also and Aaron, each of you ⚫ his censer." 18. And they took every nan his censer, and put fire in them, and aid incense thereon, (b) and stood in the loor of the tabernacle of the congregation

with Moses and Aaron. 19. And Korah gathered all the congregation against them, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation. 20. And the LORD spake unto Moses, and unto Aaron, saying, 21. "Separate yourselves "from among this congregation, that I may 66 consume them in a moment." 22. And they fell upon their faces, and said, "O "God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, "shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth "with all the congregation?" 23. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 24. "Speak unto the congregation, saying, "Get you up from about the (i) tabernacle "of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram." 25. And Moses rose up, and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. 26. And he spake unto the congregation, saying, "Depart, I pray you, from "the tents of these wicked men, and touch "nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed "in all their sins." 27. So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. 28. And Moses said, "Hereby ye shall know that "the LORD hath sent me to do all these "works: for I have not done them of mine "own mind. 29. If these men die the

common death of all men, or if they be "visited after the visitation of all men : "then the LORD hath not sent me. 30. But "if the LORD make a new thing, and the "earth open her mouth, and swallow them "up, with all that appertain unto them, "and they go down quick into the pit; "then ye shall understand that these men "have provoked the LORD." 31. And it came to pass as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: 32. And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah,

and all their goods. 33. They, and all that appertained to them went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. 34. And all Israel that were round about them, fled at the cry of them for they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up "also." 35. And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense. 36. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 37. "Speak unto Eleazar the son of

Aaron the priest, that he take up the " censers out of the burning, and scatter "thou the fire yonder; for they are hal"lowed. 38. The censers of these sinners "against their own souls, let them make "them broad plates for a covering of the "altar for they offered them before the "LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and "they shall be a sign unto the children of "Israel." 39. And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar : 40. To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses. 41. But on the morrow, all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses, and against Aaron, saying, "Ye have killed the people of the LORD.' 42. And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared. 43. And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation. 44. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 45. "Get you up from "among this congregation, that I may "consume them as in a moment:" and they fell upon their faces. 46. And Moses
