forgiveness of sins, in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. For the Lord hath given power and commandment to his ministers to declare and pronounce to his people, being penitent, the absolution and remission of their sins. He pardoneth and absolveth all those who truly repent, and unfeignedly believe his holy gospel. Cut on the contrary, I pronounce to all such as remain impenitent, whether open offenders against God's laws, or hypocrites in his sight, that they still, notwithstanding all their confessions, stand chargeable before God with all their sins: for which, as his word declares, he will at the last day sentence them to eternal damnation ; if, while the day of grace is prolong. ed unto them, they repent not, nor turn to him. God grant them true repentance unto life, for Christ's sake. Amen. A hymn after this is announced; and afier it is sunt', the blessing is pronounced, and the service concluded.

SECTION FIFTH. THE ORDER OF THE ADMINISTRATION

OF THE LORD'S SUPPER.
Afser the Service is concluded, the Minister (from ile

Altar) addresses the Communicants thus :
Min. The Lord be with you.
Com. And with thy spirit.
Min. Lift up your hearts.
Com. We lift them up to the Lord.
Min. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts.
Com. And the earth is full of his glory.

min. Therefore with Angels and Archangels, inest with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify his glorious name.

Com. Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to he Holy Ghost. Amen.

DEARLY BELOVED, AS ye intend to come to the Holy Communion of 11 the body and blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ, by receiving this holy Testament; my exhortation to you is,

First, That you would raise your hearts unto God in prayer, according to that perfect form which Christ gave his disciples; devoutly relying on the sure promise of God for the answer of your humble petitions.

Secondly, I exhort you, in the name of our Lord Jesus, that you draw near, in this sacred ordinance, in the lively exercise of faith; directing your full and grateful attention to those words of its institution, in which the blessed Redeemer grants us his body and blood, for the remission of sins. Come, and under the external symbols of bread and wine, receive the body and blood of Christ, for the nourishment of your souls; and as the assurance and pledge of your heavenly inheritance.

Let us pray. Our Father, &c.

Consecration of the Elements. ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who,

of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption; who there made a full, perfect, and suficient sacrifice, oblation and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy gospel command us to continue a perpetual memory of his precious death, until his coming again: hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech thee, and grant that we, receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partaker's of his most blessed body and blood, who, in the ne night in which he was betrayed, took bread,

hen he had given thanks, he brake it and gave

it to his disciples, saying: “ Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

Likewise, after Supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying—" Drink ye all of this; this cup is the New Testament in my blood ; which was shed for you and for many ; for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me"

Let such of you now, as truly repent of your sins, believe in Jesus, and fully purpose a new life of obedience, draw near and receive the communion of the Lord's Supper.

Distribution of the Elements. When the Minister delivereth the bread, he shall say : TESUS said, “ Take, eat; this my body which J is given for you.” May this preserve you in the true faith of his name unto everlasting life. · Likewise, when he delivers the cup, he shall say : TAKE and drink-Jesus said: “ This is my

1 blood of the New Testament, which is shed for you and for many, for the remission of sins ;" may this preserve you in the true faith of his name, unto everlasting life. After the Communion, the Minister addresses the Con

gregation thus :

Min. Give thanks unto the Lord for he is good. Hallelujah.. . Cong. And his mercy endureth for ever.

Min. We render thee our unfeigned acknowledgments, most merciful God, that thou hast now, by the most salutary gift of thy own Son's most precious body and blood, permitted our souls to be abunantly refreshed; and pray thee, that henceforth, we may live a life of true faith and devotion ; to the honour and glory of thy holy Name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ainen.

[graphic]

In the midst of life we are in death : of whom may we seek for succour but of thee, O Lord, who for our sins art justly displeased ?

Yet, O Lord God, most holy, O Lord, most mighty, O holy and most mcrciful Saviour, deliver us not into the bitter pains of eternal death.

Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts; shut not thy merciful ear to our prayers; but spare us, Lord most holy, O God, most mighty ; O holy and merciful Saviour, thou most worthy Judge eternal, suffer us not, at our last hour, for any pains of death to fall from thee.

Then the following verses may be sung,
1.. Naked, as from the earth we came,

And crept to life at first;
We to the earth return again,

And mingle with our dust.
2. The dear delights we here enjoy,

And fondly call our own,
Are but short favours borrow'd now,

To be repaid anon.
3. 'Tis. God that lifts our comforts high,

Or sinks them in the grave :
He gives, and blessed be his name,

He takes but what he gave. TORASMUCH as it hath pleased Almighty T God, in his wise providence, to take out of this. world the soul of our deceased Brother, we therefore commit his body to the ground: earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust : looking for the general resurrection in the last day, and the life of the world to come, through our Lord Jesus Christ ; at whose second coming in glorious Majesty to judge the world, the earth and the sea shall give up their dead; and the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in him shall be changed, and made like unto his own
