HOSEA XIV. 2.

Take with you words, and turn to the Lord.

THAT the service we pay to God ought to be a reasonable service, must be evident to the plainest capacity. And not only, in itself, it should be reasonable, but it is incumbent on him who offers it, to understand why it is so. For the purest rites are not more profitable than the most unmeaning ceremonies, if the worshipper approaches the throne of God with a "blinded mind." Those very words, which
