a The Devils believe, that there is a God, and tremble; and they know Jesus, who he is, the Holy One of God, the Son of the Most High. For, with Authority, he commanded the unclean Spirits, and they obeyed him: And, when they saw him, they fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

» The Devil was a Murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the Truth, because there is no Truth in him. When he speaketh a Lye, he speaketh of his own; for he is aLiar, and the Father of it.
b The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a Man which sowed good Seed in his Field j but while Men slept, his Enemy came and sowed Tares among the Wheat. He that soweth the good Seed is the Son of Man, the Field is the World; the good Seed are the Children of the Kingdom; but the Tares are the Children of the Wicked One; and the Enemy, that soweth them, is the Devil.

-» Some hear the Word of God, but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the Word out of their Hearts, lest they should believe and be faved.
b Sometimes, when the unclean Spirit is gone out of a Man, he returneth aga1n, and taketh with him seven other Spirits, more wicked than h1mself, and they enter in, and dwell there; and the last State of that Man is worse than the first.

* Is we do not give place to the Devil, but res1st him, stedfast in the Faith , he will slee from us. But it is difficult for them to recover themselves out of the Snare of the Devil, who arc taken Captive by him at his Will.
b If any Man, that is called a Brother, be a Fornicator, or Covetous, or an Idolater, or a Railer, or a Drunkard, or an Extortioner, or such like wicked Person; it is so judged, and ordered by the Apostles, that, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we are gathered together, with the Power of our Lord Jesus Christ, such a one be delivered unto Satan, for the Destruction of the Flesh; or, that he may learn not to blaspheme; that the Spirit may be faved, in the Day of the Lord Jesus.
