a Seeft thou a Man that is hafty in his Words? There is more hope of a Fool than of him..

An angry Man ftirreth up Strife; and a furious Man aboundeth in Tranfgreffion.

A foft Answer turneth away Wrath; and, Yielding pacifieth great Offences but grievous Words ftir up Anger.

d Meekness is the Fruit of the Spirit; but Wrath and Strife are the Works of the Fleft.

Bleffed are the meek; for they fhall inherit the Earth, and fhall delight themselves in the abundance of Peace.

f The Lord will guide the meek in Judgment; and the meek will he teach his Way: The meek alfo fhall increase their Joy in the Lord.

8 He that is flow to Anger, is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his Spirit, than he that taketh a City. But he that hath no Rulé over his own Spirit, is like a City that is broken down, and without Walls.

h He that hath a froward Heart, findeth no good; and he that hath a perverfe Tongue, falleth into Mischief.

They that are of a froward Heart are Abomination to the Lord.

A Man of great Wrath fhall fuffer Punishment: For, if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

វ Wrath bringeth the Punishments of the Sword;. that ye may know there is a Judgment.

TEMPERANCE.

a We know that every Creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with Thanksgiving: But we muft, add to our Know ledge Temperance and live foberly in this prefent World; and ufe this World, as not abuf ing it.

b That every Man, to whom God hath given Riches and Wealth, fhould eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his Labour; this is the Gift of God: But take heed to your felves, left at any time your Hearts be overcharged with Surfeiting and Drunkennefs.

e When thou fittest to eat, confider diligently what is before thee; and put a Knife to thy Throat, if thou be a Man given to Appetite:. And be not defirous of Dainties; for they are. deceitful Meat.

d Be not drunk with Wine, wherein is Excess; but be filled with the Spirit.

e They that are drunken, are drunken in the. Night; but let us, who are of the Day, be fober. Let us walk honeftly, as in the Day; not in Rioting, and Drunkenness For Drunkenness, Revellings, and fuch like, are Works of the Flesh; and, they which do fuch things, fhall not inherit the Kingdom of God: But Temperance: is the Fruit of the Spirit..

e Wine is a Mocker; Strong Drink is raging; and whofoever is deceived thereby is not. wife.

CHASTITY and MODESTY.

This is the Will of God, even your Sanctification, that ye fhould abstain from Fornication, Uncleannefs, inordinate Affection, evil Concupifcence, Chambering, and Wantonnefs: that every one of you fhould know, how to poffefs his Veffel in Sanctification and Honour, not in the Luft of Concupifcence, even as the Gentiles, which know. not God: For God hath not called us unto Uncleanness, but unto Holi nefs.

e Flee alfo youthful Lufts.

f Dearly beloved, I beseech you, as Strangers, and Pilgrims, abftain from fleshly Lufts, which war against the Soul.

& Keep thy felf pure: For, unto the pure, all things are pure; but unto them that are defiled. nothing is pure, but even their Mind and their Confcience is defiled.

a To avoid Fornication, let every Man have his own Wife; and let every Woman have her own Husband: For it is better to marry than to burn. And, Marriage is honourable in all; but Whoremongers, and Adulterers, God will judge.

b Let the younger Women marry, bear Chil dren, guide the Houfe, give none occafion to the Adverfary to fpeak reproachfully.

Let the aged Women likewife be, in Behaviour, as becometh Holiness; Teachers of good things: that they may teach the young Women to be fober, to love their Husbands, to love their Children, to be difcreet, chafte, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own Hufbands; that the Word of God be not blafphemed.

Let the Men intreat the younger Women, as Sifters, with all Purity.

e Fornication, and all Uncleannefs, let it not be once named amongst you, as becometh Saints; neither Filthinefs, nor foolish talking, nor jeft ing, which are not convenient.

Put all filthy Communication out of your Mouth: For it is a Shame even to speak of those things which are done of fome in fecret.

& The Woman fhall not wear that which per taineth unto a Man; neither fhall a Man put on a Woman's Garment: For all that do so are Abo'mination unto the Lord.
