4 But, chiefest, in our cleansed breast,
Eternal, bid Thy Spirit rest;

And make our secret soul to be
A temple pure and worthy Thee.
Hosanna, &c.

5 So in the last and dreadful day
When earth and heaven shall melt away,
Thy flock, redeemed from sinful stain,
Shall swell the sound of praise again.

Hosanna, &c.

1053 Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Col. iii. 17.

EHOLD us, Lord, a little space
From daily toil set free,

BEH

And met within this peaceful place,
To rest awhile with Thee.
Around us rolls the ceaseless tide
Of business, toil and care;
And scarcely dare we turn aside
For one brief hour of prayer.
2 Yet these are not the only walls
Wherein Thou mayst be sought;
On homeliest work Thy blessing falls,
In truth and patience wrought.
Thine is the forge, the loom, the mart,
The wealth of land and sea;

The worlds of science and of art,
Revealed and ruled by Thee.

3 Then let us prove our heavenly birth
In all we do and know;

And own that King of all the earth
Art Thou, and not Thy foe.
Work shall be prayer, if all be wrought
As Thou wouldst have it done;

And prayer, by Thee inspired and taught,

PUBLIC WORSHIP: CLOSE.

And blessed them.-Luke xxiv. 50.

[MADAN.]

Fill our hearts with joy and peace :
Let us all, Thy love possessing,
Triumph in redeeming grace :
O refresh us,

Travelling through this wilderness.
2 Thanks we give, and adoration,
For Thy gospel's joyful sound:
May the fruits of Thy salvation
In our hearts and lives abound.
May Thy presence

With us evermore be found.

3 So, whene'er the signal's given,
Us from earth to call away,
Borne on angels' wings to heaven,
Glad the summons to obey.
May we ever

Reign with Christ in endless day.

AY the grace of Christ our Saviour,
And the Father's boundless love,

MA

With the Holy Spirit's favour,

Rest upon us from above.

2 Thus may we abide in union

With each other and the Lord;
And possess, in sweet communion,
Joys which earth cannot afford.

Perfect in every good work.-Heb. 21. Perfec [OW may He who from the dead Brought the Shepherd of the sheep, Jesus Christ, our King and Head, All our souls in safety keep. 2 May He teach us to fulfil

What is pleasing in His sight:
Perfect us in all His will,

And preserve us day and night.
3 To that great Redeemer's praise
Who the covenant sealed with blood,
Let our hearts and voices raise

Loud thanksgivings to our God

1057 o God, Thou art my God.—Ps. lxiii. I.

ND now the wants are told, that brought
Thy children to Thy knee;

Here lingering still, we ask for nought,
But simply worship Thee.

2 The hope of heaven's eternal days
Absorbs not all the heart

That gives Thee glory, love, and praise,
For being what Thou art.

3 For Thou art God, the One, the Same,
O'er all things high and bright;

And round us, when we speak Thy Name,
There spreads a heaven of light.

4 O wondrous peace, in thought to dwell
On excellence divine;

To know that nought in man can tell
How far Thy beauties shine.

5 O Thou, above all blessing blest,
O'er thanks exalted far,

Thy very greatness is a rest

6 For when we feel the praise of Thee
A task beyond our powers,
We say A perfect God is He,
And He is fully ours.

7 All glory to the Father be,
All glory to the Son,

All glory, Holy Ghost, to Thee,
While endless ages run.

1058 The Lord will bless His people with peace.

Psalm xxix. II.

AVIOUR, again to Thy dear Name we raise With one accord our parting hymn of praise; We stand to bless Thee ere our worship cease, Then, lowly kneeling, wait Thy word of peace. 2 Grant us Thy peace upon our homeward way; With Thee began, with Thee shall end the day, Guard Thou the lips from sin, the hearts from shame,

That in this house have called upon Thy Name. 3 Grant us Thy peace, Lord, thro' the coming night,

Turn Thou for us its darkness into light;

From harm and danger keep Thy children free,
For dark and light are both alike to Thee.

4 Grant us Thy peace throughout our earthly life,
Our balm in sorrow, and our stay in strife;
Then, when Thy voice shall bid our conflict cease,
Call us, O Lord, to Thine eternal peace.

LORD'S DAY.

1059 Lord also of the Sabbath.—Mark ii. 28.

'L

ORD of the Sabbath! hear our vows,

On this Thy day, in this Thy house:
Accept, as grateful sacrifice,

The songs which from the desert rise.
2 Thine earthly Sabbaths, Lord, we love,
But there's a nobler rest above,

To that our labouring souls aspire,
With ardent hope and strong desire.
3 No more fatigue, no more distress;
No guilt the conscience to oppress;
No groans to mingle with the songs
Resounding from immortal tongues :
4 No rude alarms of raging foes,
No cares to break the long repose,
No midnight shade, no clouded sun,
But sacred, high, eternal noon.

5 O long-expected day begin!

Dawn on these realms of woe and sin.
Thine earthly Sabbaths, Lord, we love;
But wait the nobler rest above.

HOU who art enthroned above,
Thou by whom we live and move,
O how sweet, with joyful tongue,
To resound Thy praise in song!
When the morning paints the skies,
When the sparkling stars arise,
All Thy favours to rehearse,
And give thanks in grateful verse.
