By adopting "the spirit of the age," there is reason to fear we shall depart from the truth of the Gospel, and stand opposed to the Divine authority of revealed religion. It is evident, that if the principles of what is called Political Economy be acted on with unmitigated severity towards the poor, they will be totally subversive of true Christian charity, and of that "faith which worketh by love." |
