When we weep beside the bier
Where some well-loved form is laid,
Oh! may then the mourner hear,
"It is I; be not afraid."

I WHEN the dark waves round us 4 pp
And we look in vain for aid, [roll,
Speak, Lord, to the trembling soul,
f" It is I; be not afraid."

2 mf When we dimly trace Thy form
In mysterious clouds arrayed,
Be the echo of the storm,
f" It is I; be not afraid."

3 When our brightest hopes depart,
When our fairest visions fade,
Whisper to the fainting heart,

cres" It is I; be not afraid.'

5 When with wearing, hopeless pain
Sinks the spirit, sore dismayed,
cres Breathe Thou then the comfort-
mf" It is I; be not afraid." [strain,

6 pp When we feel the end is near,

Passing into death's dark shade, cres May the voice be strong and clear, f" It is I; be not afraid." Amen

mfCOME, my soul, thy suit prepare ;

Jesus loves to answer prayer;
He Himself has bid thee pray,
Therefore will not say thee nay.
f Thou art coming to a King:

Large petitions with thee bring;
For His grace and power are such,

None can ever ask too much.

With my burden I begin :
Lord, remove this load of sin;
Let Thy blood, for sinners spilt,
Set my conscience free from guilt.
Lord, I come to Thee for rest;
res Take possession of my breast;

1 mfJESUS, Lord of life and glory,

Bend from heaven Thy gracious ear;
While our waiting souls adore Thee,
Friend of helpless sinners, hear:
p By Thy mercy,

cres Oh, deliver us, good Lord!
mfTaught by Thine unerring Spirit,
Boldly we draw nigh to God,
Only in Thy spotless merit,
Only through Thy precious blood:
By Thy mercy,

cres Oh, deliver us, good Lord!
mfFrom the depth of nature's blindness,
From the hardening power of sin,
From all malice and unkindness,
From the pride that lurks within,

p By Thy mercy,

cres Oh, deliver us, good Lord!
p When temptation sorely presses,
In the day of Satan's power,
In our times of deep distresses,

In each dark and trying hour,
pp By Thy mercy,

cres Oh, deliver us, gcod Lord!
5 mf When the world around is smiling,
In the time of wealth and ease,
Earthly joys our hearts beguiling,
In the day of health and peace,
By Thy mercy,
cres Oh, deliver us, good Lord!
6 In the weary hours of sickness,
In the times of grief and pain,
When we feel our mortal weakness,
When the creature's help is vain,
By Thy mercy,

7

cres Oh, deliver us, good Lord! In the solemn hour of dying, In the awful judgment day, cres May our souls, on Thee relying, Find Thee still our rock and stay: By Thy mercy, 273 cres Oh, deliver us, good Lord! Amen
