116 "At midnight there was a cry made, Behold the bridegroom cometh; go ye out

to meet him."

if"WAKE, awake! for night is flying," The watchmen on the heights are crying; Awake, Jerusalem, at last!" mf Midnight hears the welcome voices, And at the thrilling cry rejoices;

'Forth, virgins, haste ere night be past! cres The Bridegroom comes; awake,

Your lamps with gladness take;
f Hallelujah!

mf And for His marriage-feast prepare, For we must go to meet Him there." amf Zion hears the watchmen singing, Ánd all her heart with joy is springing;

She wakes, she rises from her gloom; Fres For her Lord comes down all-glorious, The strong in grace, in truth victorious, f Her Star is risen, her light is come!

"Lift up your heads, for your redemption draweth nigh.”

mfREJOICE, all ye believers,

And let your lights appear;

The evening is advancing,

And darker night is near.

cres The Bridegroom is arising,

And soon He draweth nigh; ƒ Up! pray and watch and wrestle;

At midnight comes the cry!

2mfSee that your lamps are burning,
Replenish them with oil;
And wait for your salvation,
The end of earthly toil.
The watchers on the mountain
Proclaim the Bridegroom near;
f Go, meet Him, as He cometh,

With hallelujahs clear!

3 mf Ye wise and holy virgins,

Now raise your voices higher,
Till, in glad songs of jubilee,
They meet the angel choir.
The marriage-feast is waiting,
The gates wide open stand;
f Up! up! ye heirs of glory,

The Bridegroom is at hand!
4mfOur Hope and Expectation,
O Jesus! now appear;
cres Arise, Thou Sun, so longed-for,
O'er this benighted sphere !
f With hearts and hands uplifted,
We plead, O Lord, to see
The day of earth's redemption,

That brings us unto Thee! Amen.

"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

If TEN thousand times ten thousand,

In sparkling raiment bright, The armies of the ransomed saints

Throng up the steeps of light: mf'Tis finished! all is finished,-

Their fight with death and sin; f Fling open wide the golden gates, And let the victors in.

2 f What rush of hallelujahs

Fills all the earth and sky!
What ringing of a thousand harps

Bespeaks the triumph nigh!
O day, for which creation

And all its tribes were made!
res O joy, for all its former woes
A thousandfold repaid!

3mf Oh, then, what raptured greetings On Canaan's happy shore! What knitting severed friendships up Where partings are no more! f Then eyes with joy shall sparkle That brimmed with tears of late; cres Orphans no longer fatherless, Nor widows desolate.

4 Bring near Thy great salvation, Thou Lamb for sinners slain;

cres Fill up the roll of Thine elect,

f Then take Thy power, and reign: mf Appear, Desire of nations!

Thine exiles long for home; [sign; cres Show in the heavens Thy promised f Thou Prince and Saviour, come!

Amen.

1 THE Church has waited long

Her absent Lord to see;

And still in loneliness she waits,
A friendless stranger she.
Age after age has gone,

Sun after sun has set,
And still, in weeds of widowhood,
She weeps, a mourner yet?

cres Come, then, Lord Jesus, come! 2 Saint after saint on earth

Has lived and loved and died; And, as they left us one by one, We laid them side by side; We laid them down to sleep, But not in hope forlorn, We laid them to await the change cres Till the last glorious morn :

Come, then, Lord Jesus, come !

3mf We long to hear Thy voice,

To see Thee face to face,

To share Thy crown and glory there,
As here we share Thy grace.
Should not the loving Bride

The absent Bridegroom mourn?
Should she not wear the weeds of grief
Until the Lord return?

cres Come, then, Lord Jesus, come! 4 The whole creation groans,

And waits to hear that voice Which shall restore her comeliness cres And make her wastes rejoice. mf Come, Lord, and wipe away

The curse, the sin, the stain, f And make this blighted world of ours Thine own fair world again: Come, then, Lord Jesus, come !

Amen.

120 "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings Thou hast perfected praise."

If ALL glory, laud, and honour

To Thee, Redeemer, King!

The King and Blessed One!
f All glory, &c.

3 mf The company of angels

Are praising Thee on high;
And mortal men, and all things
Created, make reply.

f All glory, &c.

4mf The people of the Hebrews

With palms before Thee went ; Our praise and prayer and anthems Before Thee we present.

f All glory, &c.

5mfTo Thee, before Thy Passion, They sang their hymns of praise: cres To Thee, now high exalted, Our melody we raise.

f All glory, &c. 6mf Thou didst accept their praises; Accept the prayers we bring ; Who in all good delightest, Thou good and gracious King. f All glory, &c. Amen.
