the son of Jeholakim king of Judah, and the princes of Ju lah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon. One basket had very good figs, even like the As that are first ripe; and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad. Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

Amos viii, 1. 2. Thus hath the Lord GoD shewed unto me; and behold a basket of summer-fruit.

And hesaid, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summerfruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

CONFINED POSTURE. Ezek. iv, 4-8. Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their luiquity. For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year. Therefore thou shalt set thy face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and thine arm shall be uncovered, and thou shalt prophesy against it. And, behold, I will lay bands upon thee, and thou shalt not turn thee from one side to another, till thou hast ended the days of thy siege.

GIRDLE.

Jer. xii, 1-7. Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go, and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. So I got a girdle, according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins. And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock. So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commandAnd it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid

it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

HORNS AND CARPENTERS. Zech. i, 18-20. Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. And the LORD shewed me four carpenters.

EQUESTRIAN SCENE.

Zech. 1, 8--11. I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white. Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be. And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtletrees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

SUBMERSION..

Jer. xlili, 9. Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brick-kiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah.

Jer. 11, 61-64. And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words, Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever. And

it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates: And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

Rev. xviil, 21. And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

NAKED PROPHET.

Isa. xx, 3, 4. And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three

years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia; So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

PLUMB-LINE.

Amos vii. 7, 8. Thus he showed me; and, behold, the LORD stood upon a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand. And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I Then said said, A plumb-line. the LORD, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel, I will not again pass

by them any more.

REMOVING FURNITURE.

Ezek. xii, 3--5. Therefore, thou son of man, prepare thee stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight; and thou shalt remove from thy place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they be a rebellious house. Then shalt thou bring forth thy stuff by day in their sight, as stuff tor removing: and thou shalt go forth at even in their sight, as they that go forth into captivity. Dig thou through the wall in their sight, and carry out thereby.

Ezek. xxxvii, 16, 17. Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of them one to another into one Israel his companions: And join stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

Zech. xi, 7, 10, 11, 14. And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock. And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might

break my covenant which I had, made with all the people. And it was broken in that day; and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

VINE TREE.

Ezekiel xv, 2-5. Son of man, What is the vine-tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest? Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burnt. Is it meet for any work? Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it,

and it is burned?

Ezek. xix, 10-14. Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful. and full of branches, by reason of many waters. And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches. But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit; her strong rods were broken and withered, the fire consumed them. And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground. And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which hath devoured her fruit, so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamenta

upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height. I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee.

CUP OF WINE.

Jer. xxv, 15-17. For thus saith the Lord GOD of Israel unto me; Take the wine-cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. Then took I the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me.

YOKES.

Jer. xxvii, 2, 3. Thus sayeth the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck, And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah.

SCENES.

PRESENCE OF SATAN.

Job 1, 6-12. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan' answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land: But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD,

Ezek. xxxii, 1--6. And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas; and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. Thus saith the Lord Gon, I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in Job ii, 3-7. And the LORD said my net. Then will I leave thee unto Satan, Hast thou considered upon the land, I will cast thee my servant Job, that there is none forth upon the open field, and will like him in the earth, a perfect cause all the fowls of the heaven and an upright man, one that to remain upon thee, and I will fill feareth God, and escheweth evil? the beasts of the whole earth with and still he holdeth fast his inthee. And I will lay thy Beshtegrity, although thou movedst

me against him, to destroy him without cause. And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin; yea, all that a man bath will he give for his life: But put forth thine hand, now,and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

HEAVEN IN COUNCIL.

1 Kings xxii, 15-21. So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king. And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD? And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace. And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil? And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD:

saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand, and on his left. And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Alab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

JOSHUA AND SATAN.

Zech. iii, 1, 3-5. And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thing iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.

6. RIDDLES. Judges xiv. 14-18. And he said

unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson's wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father's house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so? And Samson's wife wept before him, aud said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor iny mother, and shall I tell it thee? And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him; and she told the riddle to the children of her people. And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not ploughed with my

fowl of every wing; in the shadow
of the branches thereof shall they
dwell. And all the trees of the
field shall know that I the LORD
have brought down the high tree,
have exalted the low tree; have
dried up the green tree, and have
made the dry tree to flourish: I the
LORD have spoken, and have done
it.

Ezek. xxxiv, 29. And I will raise
up for them a plant of renown,
and they shall be no more con-
sumed with hunger in the land,
neither bear the shame of the
heathen any more.

Zech. iii, 8. Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee; for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant The BRANCH.

Zech. vi, 12, 13. And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his

Jesus answered est the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

John vil, 37--39. In the last day; that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me,

THE BRANCH.

Isa. iv. 2. In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely

for them that are escaped of Israel.

shall be between them both.

BREAD.

John vi, 32--35, 48, 50-58. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. I am that bread of life. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came David; and he shall execute judg-down from heaven: if any man ment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our Righteousness.

Jer. xxxiii, 14-16. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel, and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch

Ezek. xvii, 22--24. Thus saith the Lord Gop; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it

upon
an high mountain and

height of Israel will I plant it;
and it shall bring forth boughs,
and bear fruit, and be a goodly
cedar: and under it shall dweli all

eat of this bread, he shall live for
ever: and the bread that I will
give is my flesh, which I will give
for the life of the world. The
Jews therefore strove among
themselves, saying, How can this
man give us his flesh to eat? Then
Jesus said unto them, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Except yo
eat the flesh of the Son of man,
and drink his blood, ye have no
life in you. Whoso eateth my
flesh, and drinketh my blood,
hath eternal life; and I will raise
him up at the last day. For my
flesh is meat indeed, and my blood
is drink indeed. He that eateth
my flesh, and drinketh my blood,

me, as the scriptures hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Micah V, 4. 5. And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. men.

1 John v, 11, 12. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

LAMB.

John 1, 29, 35. 36. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world! Again the next day after John stood and two of his disciples; And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Rev. v, 6. And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

FOUNDATION.

1 Cor. ill, 11. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Eph. ii, 20-22. And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building, fitly framed together, groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

FORETOLD AS THE CORNER STONE.

Ps. cxviii, 22-24. The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the LORD's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Isa. xxviii, 16. Therefore thus Baith the Lord Gop, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a trie stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

Zech. iil, 9. For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling Rom. ix, 33. As it is written, stone and rock of offence: and Whosoever believeth on him shall

not be ashamed.

LIVING STONE.

1 Peter ii, 3-5. If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious: To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

AS LIGHT AND SUN. Isa. xlii, 6, 7. I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles: To open the blind eyes, to bring out the

prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness, out of the prison house.

Mal. iv, 2. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings: and ye shall go forth and grow up as calves of the stall.

Then Jesus is the light with you: walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide

in darkness.

STARS.

AS A SWORD.

Isa. xlix 1-4. Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand bath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me; And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified. Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain; yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.

Rev. xix, 15, 21. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
