5 Perform the work Thou hast begun, My inmost soul to Thee convert, Love me, for ever love Thine own, And sprinkle with Thy blood my heart. 6 Thy sanctifying Spirit pour, To quench my thirst and wash me clean; Now, Father, let the gracious shower Descend, and make me pure from sin. 7 Purge me from every sinful blot, My idols all be cast aside; Cleanse me from every evil thought, From all the filth of self and pride. 8 Give me a new a perfect heart, From doubt, and fear, and sorrow free; The mind which was in Christ impart, And let my spirit cleave to Thee. 9 O take this heart of stone away, (Thy sway it doth not, cannot own,) In me no longer let it stay; O take away this heart of stone. 10 The hatred of the carnal mind Out of my flesh at once remove; And pure, and full of faith and love. II Within me Thy good Spirit place, Spirit of health, and love, and power; 12 Cause me to walk in Christ my Way; In every point Thy law obey, Pleading the Promise of Sanctification, &c. 321 13 Hast Thou not said, who canst not lie, Lord, I believe, though men deny ; 14 O that I now, from sin released, Thy word might to the utmost prove! The Canaan of Thy perfect love. 15 There let me ever, ever dwell; Be Thou my God, and I will be 16 From all remaining filth within Let me in Thee salvation have; My ransom'd soul persist to save. 17 Wash out my deep original stain- Demons or men! The Lamb was slain, 18 Sprinkle it, Jesu, on my heart ! One drop of Thine all-cleansing blood 19 Father, supply my every need; Sustain the life Thyself hast given : The manna that comes down from heaven. 20 The gracious fruits of righteousness, Thy blessings' unexhausted store, In me abundantly increase, Nor let me ever hunger more. 21 Let me no more, in deep complaint. My leanness, O my leanness ! cry; Alone consumed with pining want, Of all my Father's children, I! 22 The painful thirst, the fond desire, Thy joyous presence shall remove, 23 Holy, and true, and righteous Lord, 24 Thy faithful mercies let me find, In which Thou causest me to trust; Give me the meek and lowly mind, And lay my spirit in the dust. 25 Show me how foul my heart hath been, When all renew'd by grace I am; When Thou hast emptied me of sin, Show me the fulness of my shame. 26 Open my faith's interior eye; Display Thy glory from above, Lost in astonishment and love. Behold the Man! 27 Confound, o'erpower me with Thy grace; 28 Now let me gain perfection's height; BEHOLD THE MAN ! I ARISE, my soul, arise; Shake off thy guilty fears; The bleeding Sacrifice In my behalf appears; Before the throne my Surety stands, 2 He ever lives above 3 For me to intercede, His all-redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead ; And sprinkles now the throne of grace. Five bleeding wounds He bears, They strongly speak for me; Forgive him, O forgive! they cry, 323 4 5 The Father hears Him pray, His dear Anointed One, He cannot turn away The presence of His Son ; His Spirit answers to the blood, And tells me I am born of God. My God is reconciled, His pardoning voice I hear, He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear, With confidence I now draw nigh, TITUS II. 11, &C.. I WE magnify the gift of God, 2 To every soul it comes unsought, To all it hath appear'd, and brought 3 From all ungodliness and sin It teaches us to fly, Forbids to touch the thing unclean, Or but in thought comply. 4 From every earthly low desire, From every creature-love, It calls, and bids our hearts aspire |
