The answer to a multiplication sum is called the Product.

The number that is to be multiplied is called the Multiplicand, and the number we multiply by is the Multiplier.

To square a number, we multiply it by itself. Thus 81 is the square

EXERCISES IN DIVISION.

; , called divided by, is the sign for Division. Thus 6 = 3 means that 6 is to be divided by 3. Sometimes the numbers are set down thus, ģ. This means that the number above the line is to be divided by the number below the line.

The answer to a division sum is called the Quotient. The number to be divided is the Dividend. The number we divide by is the Divisor.

After the sum is finished, there will often remain a part of the Dividend which is smaller than the Divisor. This is called the Remainder.

To prove a division sum, multiply the Quotient by the
