even the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of mercies, and and the God of all comfort. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope

of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

2 Cor. iv, 8, 9. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

Phil. 1, 7, 28-30. Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. And in nothing terrifled by your adversaries: which is to them an

evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and

now hear to be in me.

Phil. ii, 17, 18. Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

2 Thess. 1, 4, 5. So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure;

Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer.

2 Tim. ii, 10-13. Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

Heb. xi, 25, 26. Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures

of sin for a season; Esteeming

the fiery trial which is to try you,

happened unto you: But rejoice,

Christ's sufferings; that, when his
glory shall be revealed, ye may be
glad also with exceeding joy. If
ye be reproached for the name of
Christ, happy are ye; for the
Spirit of glory and of God resteth

upon you: on their part he is evil

them that obey not the gospel of
God? And if the righteous scarcely
be saved, where shall the ungodly

let them that suffer according to
the will of God commit the keep-
ing of their souls to him in well-
doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
